You guys seem to have fun with politics, so here’s my try. With perfect 20/20 hindsight, how should Carter have handled the Iran hostage crisis?

1: He did it right. Our hostages were released unharmed, and war was averted.

2: He did it wrong. He should have declared war and destroyed Iran bit by bit until the hostages were released.

I’m pretty sure how the ultra left and right will vote, but what about you middle of the road types? Do you feel Carter’s actions may have been seen as weakness by certain factions in the ME and caused some of our current problems?

"Those fanatics have been going at it over their religious differences in the middle east for 1000s of years. If you want to get in the middle of that ****tt, youd better be prepared for a long battle."

This is what my late father told me back in the 80s.

And he was not a left wing liberal at all....

The only way to get peace in the middle east are to wait until the oil has gone away. Then nobody would care and they would not have the money to threaten the world....

Agreed that peace in the ME is not an option. These people have been killing each other in the name of God for at least 5000 years, and seemingly enjoying it. The problem is how to keep their squabbles from infecting the rest of the world.
