Sirius Satellite Radio - Opinions Wanted.

Just got the Sirius radio as a gift for my 911.

I usually listen to CDs in my car and the only reason i may install it would be for Howard Stern.
Is the music any good? can you record music off it?

is it worth the cost? I'm deciding whether to keep it or return it and save the 12.95/month.

thanks.

I've been looking into satellite radio somewhat lately. Where I live, FM sucks. From what I hear (and have heard), satellite radio is outstanding. I've heard Sirius has better variety of music and better DJs generally. I know the Sirius S50 will record and hold up to 50 hours of programming, and I believe it's the only Sirius radio that will do that. I think you can by your subscription by the year and get it down to around $10/mo.

can you hook it to your stereo system? I have a Nakamichi cd player that goes into an amplifier.

Yea, verily....When the Modulation of Frequency demons waylay the greatly desired strength of signal angels, I, the Creator, have decreed that discs of compact be available to all of the faithful. Take not the monthly charge too Seriusly, for it is too Stern. Shun the satellite and control thy destiny with multiple disc angels in thy trunk.

My Sirius satellite radio is one of the best purchases I ever made. I love the music and really only listen to 4 channels and Howard isn't one of them. I will occasionally tune in but I had my satellite radio before and when I drive I like to listen to music. Don't pay the $12.95 a month, pay the lump sum if you can afford it for a lifetime or for a couple of years and the monthly payment cost is technically less or talk a friend to sign up on your subscription and split the cost for the cheaper rate that he gets. I also listen to Sirius at work during the day over the internet. You can also call in and request songs be played if you like.

As far as recording music, if you have the output hooked to an external recording device with maybe a home kit, it could be feasable.

Just got Sirius yesterday,,sorry I did not do it sooner!! Much sooner !! For the last 10 years as soon as a DJ would start drizlin about blah blah I would just hit a new channel....usually took 2 to 3 times to find one that was not luvin to hear himself. Fm has turned into talk radio.
I always wanted to call up a radio station and ask them how they new if they were good at their job, then tell them to look up famous DJ s and see how many of them it took to run a show-usually one, not 3 !!!

It came in the new Audi we bought a couple of years ago as well as a 90 day "free" evaluation period. It took us all of 2 weeks to know that we would want to keep it. It is great. Set 4 or 5 of the pre-sets and IMHO it elimiates the need for CD's.

It is so good that 2 weeks ago on my cross country trip home in my "new " SC that I stopped in Albuquerque and bought a Sportster model -$7 per month for the 2nd unit on your account- so I could have something to listen to the next 2 1/2 days driving.

I have XM sat and really like it, especially for traveling. I wouldn't get Sirius for the specific reason that I can't stand Howard Stern. M2CW

you'd rather listen to oprah it sounds

sirius is the way to go, the technology/programming is still growing but it has now where to go but forward.
the s-50 is a slick piece, you can record hours of data (and also download your mp3's to it) and use it as a portable with headphones......great stuff

My wife gave me Sirius for Christmas last year...love it, especially since the radio chocies in my area are limited to, "the best of the 70', 80's and 90's" or C&W.

I use the traffic feature quite a bit since I commute into DC at least twice a week. The comedy channels help with the traffic, too.

Absolutely love Sirius. Great sports programming (especially NFL), excellent music channels, a variety of talk radio, Playboy channel for free (which I have not activated yet)

Since I spend about 30 hours per week in the car, the Sirius is a godsend.

I get XM radio through my satellite dish at home and I kinda like their music channels...more variety of jazz and classical than Sirius...Sirius is heavy towards pop an rock...

This isnt such a bad thing, just differnet. Overall I prefer Sirius.

XM has a portable receiver now that you can carry around and get live programming anywhere...

Sirius has the S50 but soon will have a portable live unit too.

Satellite radio rocks.

I think it is the "silent" rebellion to all the dumb talk talk that goes on now on fm, from what was that tv show? - to what a DJ did last week end,,,who gives a rip. They are not even close to "Wolf Man Jack" , or "Boom Boom Branagan" As for Howard Stern ,well he is there some where but who cares,!! I dont have to listen to him, there is plenty of good commercial free music

I guess one thing to consider if you could return the unit would be if you exchanged it for either a different Sirius radio or an XM radio, depending on the features you'd like to have. You could check out the differences in programming. Sirius has two NPR stations that XM does not have, and different sports coverage as well.

I've had Sirius since Jan. of this year, I enjoy listening to Howard but also enjoy the music. The 60's,70's and 80's music is great. The only thing I don't enjoy is weak signals/interference. It seems like in the mornings as I drive to work ( about 5 miles ) the signal gets weak or there is "bleed" thru from other stations? It would be nice if the technology would progress to the point of being able to listen to it inside a building ( like work ) without having a antenna pointing at the satellite.

I think Sirius reception varies by the time of day as their satellites are moving. Sirius is considered to have slightly better coverage than XM with it's two geostationary satellites. But, XM is supposed to be upgrading as well. One reason I like the S50 is it'll store up to 50 hours of material that can be played back when reception isn't good or if it's out of its dock.

Got Surius to follow Howard before he hit the air. Was mad I didn't do it sooner. Great music programing. I love the Classic Vinyl station. Coffee House is good to. Octane and Sirius Disorder are on my memory as well.

Another suprise? Bubba the Love Sponge. I had heard him 15 years ago in Tampa and now he is on evenings on 101 and he is pretty funny. Neds prank phone calls alone will crack you up.

I'll never go back to terrestial radio again.

I got my dad a Sirius station for his cabin in Canada where he only had a choice of two stations. He loves it. Step dad loves using it off the Florida coast on his boat.

My girlfriend got me Sirius (S50) for Christmas so I could listen to Howard. Isn't she great!?! She's not of fan of his, so she was playing with the radio and found so many music stations she loved, that she got her own Sirius radio as well. It would be expensive at $13/ month, but I have everyone subscribed at $7/month on my account.

Lastly, g/f got a new car this weekend. She's been complaining that terrestrial radio sucks and wants me to hurry and re-install her radio in the new car.

how long do you think "commercial free" will last? remember when cable first came out, it was also "commercial free", now there's a commercial every 5 mins.
