OT is for humor? Are you new here?

We play for keeps 'round these parts, junior.

nostatic 04-18-2006 12:31 PM

still haven't answered the question...what do you want in the car. Luxury? Performance? To impress people? What's most important?

I don't wear a suit so I don't contend with that issue.

Performance is most important - then luxury but can be dumbed down, some stuff is not needed if it is a weight concern.

2 door cars are a pain for everyday life - so ideally 4. I have a 911 which is super practical already. Pick up a couple bags of groceries and you are f*ucked...drycleaning forget about it.

keep the M5.

The reply was a joke - I thought off topic had a sense of humor, freakin trolls.

Pansy.

Do you really expect to get any reasonable advice after this *****?

See the Smilies over to the left of the screen?

Use 'em next time you think you're making a joke.

I thought is was a reasonable post - followed by the first response of a minivan and college education. The guy (who is named idiot btw) made the post...seemed logical to me that it was a joke. Hence the reply. If my username was idiot I would act like one? No?

I guess reasonable advice is tough to get - of which you certainly are contributing to the cause. Thank you.

3418 posts -

Are you not expecting your first child?

Your life is about to change in ways you cannot even imagine right now.

I hate to say it but in a year or two a minivan (or an SUV of some sort...basically a kid hauler) and a 356 will start sounding reasonable.

College fund? Start now.

Whatever you do, do not sell your toys. ;)

All agreed - all good advice. Here is the present stable:

84 911 Carerra
01 Land Rover Disco II
01 M5 Lemans Blue
05 Yamaha FZ6
06 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT/8
06 M Roadster (on order)

Except the M5 was just sold - the SUV thing is covered.

What I am looking for is something fun, fast and under 70k with over 400hp.

College fund? The kid is but a pod now and besides the college fund is all set. 356? Ok nothing against the 356 and the 356 crowd - but the 356 is not an option.

I guess I wanted to be sure I have not left anything uncovered with regard to V8 power in a small lightweight car other than those mentioned. This is alot of work.

Well, for much less than $70K, I saw two very interesting cars today: The Dodge Charger SRT8 and the Chrysler 300 SRT8.

"SRT8" seems to mean "very fast," but both cars are quite handsome, teeming with cowhide and compared to Euro cars of their class, I figure about $30 or $40K less. Oh, and they own 6.1 Hemi V8s worth 425 horsepower, and have those now ubiquitous semi-automatic "power stick" transmissions.

Beyond that, what's fairly reassuring as well is both cars have some Mercedes parts in them, to be sure, which can't hurt. (Daimler owns Chrysler).

Both are four doors, and need I say, very large cars with lots of interior space. I bet they're fairly baby-safe as well, because they look like they weigh at least as much as a full-sized Mercedes.

As I priced them, the Charger SRT8 was $40K out the door, and the Chrysler 300 SRT8 was $46K.

A steal if you ask me, which you haven't, but I'll tell you as much anyway...

Buy out the remaining Yugo supply in the US. :)

NKN84944 04-18-2006 05:14 PM

I would also consider the Lexus GS430... probably the most reliable fun car that you could buy. Plus these cars hold their value well.

BUY A FIAT ITS THE CAR OF YOUR DREAMS!!!!!!!!!!!

What about the Infinity M45? Supposed to be an awesome machine.

Nissan is at the top of their game right now.

Old guy here.
Looks like you have a pretty nice stable so far. Rather than another car, how about a nice no load fund for junior. $70k @ 8% for 21 years = $374k. That should be enough to make the down payment on a POS 1200 sq ft house in CA or a small county in VA. SmileWavy

As usual, Howard is the voice of reason, though reason can be so boring...;)
