Come on Porsche....

Its Porsche. You pay to play. We all know the score.

But sometimes their behavior really does burn me.

If you have a pre 2004 Boxster, the only way (supposedly) to deactivate the passenger airbag is buy a child seat kit. Their cost for the seat? $850. For a child seat!!!!!! Plus $150 for the deactivation kit, plus install. Sickening. You must have the seat or the deactivation kit does not work.

For that kind of $$$, I could have a tech disconnect the airbag, and get software to clear the code, and still afford the latch bar kit so my kid is safe.

EDIT!!!!! So it turns out that the seat does not cost even remotely that much. I called 2 other dealers nearby and they quoted me half as much. The jerks that quoted me $850 were Barrier motors in Bellevue, WA.

Maybe if you slam on the brakes at 80 mph the air bag will come off due to the decceleration, and done, it`ll be deactivated for free.

Note: Try at your own risk, I have no idea if it would really work, my 78SC does not have an air bag.

Harddrive which seat was it? If its the Porsche Plus seat(which would be the one for a 3 1/2 ti 12 year old) that one is 420 dollars or so.

Is this the same car company that charged AU$140,000 for a car in 1988 that had largely not been changed what so ever for almost three decades and was mostly built on technology stolen from the Czechs in the late thirties?

They are smart - you got to give it to the Germans.

Victor, get back in the Panzer!

As for the rest of you US guys, learn to wear a seat belt! Maybe then your airbags wouldnt need to deploy with the force of a stick of dynamite, killing the innocent and the small (note: not one child has been killed in Australia from an airbag deployment).

Do they have different air bags in Australia?
AFAIK most states here in the U S of A have seat belt laws... i.e if you are seen driving without one you will be pulled over and ticketed.
