Thanks Mike,
Might be time for me to do that long pilgrimage to the Promised land in the West. Get out of Stalingrad, so to speak. Ryan, Found it. ;) |

Whenever someone asks me where Arkansas is, I always tell them it's right next to, but left of Tennessee. In California, they get it.
I will follow that up with a funny story of a bike ride from one coast to the other. Was on my way to bike week in Daytona several years ago, but wanted to visit friends in Raliegh. So was on I-40 from California. Of course, cross the river from Arkansas to Tennessee. Just before getting on the bridge, there is a BIG sign that said "Leaving the great state of Arkansas, home of the (whatever) President of the USA, William J. Clinton." There was a road crew taking that sign down, and it looked like a newer version was going up.... but was funny in a way.. then, as I crossed the bridge, came on another sign, "Welcome to the great state of Tennessee, home of the NEXT President of the USA, Albert Gore, Jr." Yes, there was a road crew taking that one down too. |
:D :D :D

Wow, this went way OT from the original post, but in a good way, I can see. :)
Thanks all for the support--I finally knocked this out before the deadline and handed it off to my co-author for his run-thru--and he sent it back to me with maybe 3 changes. It's in the editors' hands now, and now we're waiting to peer-review the adjacent chapters. The best part was citing 2 of my previous papers in the biblio. ;) |
Holy smokes...
Today what should appear on my desk but the "complimentary author's copy" of the book. Cover price is $249.00, of which I will not see one cent. I'm pretty sure nobody else will either--I suspect nobody but the authors will ever give it a second glance. While I finished the bulk of the work on this in 2006, I have to admit I'm floored by the glacial pace of the publication process. Granted it contains 20+ chapters, each written by a different author (or authors). Organizing this must have been a hell of a task. In retrospect I'm glad all I had to do was write the damned chapter. Well, one more thing to add to my CV. |
Congratulations!

BlueSky congrats! I feel your 'pain'. My second book Process Plant Equipment Operation, Reliability and Control illustrates the best practices, reliability and control of various equipment as applied in all aspects of the process industry. I am editing it with two others - we have over 30 contributors from all around the world. I'm not thinking it will sell as many as my first book which was a solo gig.
The upside, each contributing author will have a family member or someone buy at least one! Nice going dude. I know how you feel and it is a good feeling! |
Thanks guys. I think I'm going to wait another 5 or so years before I even think of torturing myself with something like this again. :D

Congratulations!
Yes, publishing work takes time. Particularly annoying when writing in a scientific field where new discoveries comes along before your text have been printed, already old news in worst case not correct anymore.. |
My niece just sold a book. I think it's a young adult fantasy novel. My understanding is that it will be out next summer. Can't wait to read it. She was represented by an agent who shopped the book around. Must be decent as it went to auction and was picked up on a three book deal.
