coin values

Hey guys,

My grandfather collected a bunch of coins before he died - about 6 years ago. My grandmother has given them to me to value/sell. I would say there are about 1000 coins. Most of them are U.S. , but some are from various countries that he picked up when he was overseas in WWII. My question is how do I have these appraised wihtout getting screwed?

Thanks,

Allan

Go to at least two coin dealers to get appraisals. Like anything else, they will probably give you something like 50%-60% or so of the actual value as they need to make money too.

You can watch ebay for similar coins and see what they sell for although the sellers often over grade the coins on eBay so they end up selling at times for more that they are really worth. Buyer beware.

Condition is huge with coins and can make a big difference in the value.

As for the US stuff, feel free to PM me with a list of some examples and I could give you a ball park figure using Coin World's current values.
