1943 Silver Penny anything special?

Way OT I know but I got a 1943 silver penny that has the wheat stems on the back in some change a lunch. Is it anything special?

I personally think its worth millions and will sell it on Ebay based on that alone.

They aren't terribly valuable, but not worthless. It's not actaully silver. It's zinc, because they needed copper for ammo for WWII.

I don't think there are many terribly valuable wheat pennies except the 1909 vdb.

A copper 1943 is extremely valuable. Most 1943s were zinc.

To be even more specific, it is a zinc-coated steel.

Even circulated it's worth $.25 cents or so.

Back in high school I was working in a grocery store in Long Beach Cali and I cracked open a red roll of pennies and bam.. they were all wheat backs. I looked on the roll and it had a hand written name and went back to the box and found the same name on about 60 more rolls so I bought them and they were all wheat backs and 3 rolls were the 1943 zinc pennies. They aren't really worth much now but was fun to find that many at once. It's still fun to look through my change and sometimes find a wheat penny. Would be nice to find some silver dimes in change.

yowza, what a great find. I'd have loved to find that many wheat pennies. I once had a guy I was working with open a roll that had 48 wheat pennies, all of them older than 1923 and one of them a 1909 (the first year). He had no idea, and I used to collect coins, damn the bad luck.

Is that the 95% copper ones they stopped making in 1982, or the copper coated aluminum ones they have made since then?

Your lucky to still have that stuff.

Unfortunately when I was younger and we moved to So. Cal. most of my now collectable stuff was either given to my cousin or given to friends. I still have the comic books and all the baseball cards though.
