Standing Room Only?

Airbus is pitching standing room airline seats to the asian market.

Would you fly this way? I don't think that I would....

flying back in the 60's and 70's, during the 'golden age' was a dress-up affair. people would wear their best clothes to fly and the pilots were treated with much dignity and respect. times have changed in our busy world..i'd hate to see today's 'modern buses' turned into even more-packed sardine cans for passenger carrying. count me out, keri.. ;) then again, maybe i got spoiled all the years flying in which i had the 'best seat in the house'..

Turbulence would suck.

I quit flying commercial after 9/11. Not because of any fear, but I was tired of the long waits, delays, and being packed in like a sardine. When we take vacations we drive and have a lot more fun.

I'd really hate to have to fly standing up, even short haul.

I guess if the price is right, people will suffer anything to get to their destination.

I have had the pleasure of flying in standing room twice: once from Cairo to Aswan many years ago as a student - and once fairly recently in Cambodia from Phnom Penh to Battambang. Both were short haul flights of less than an hour in duration.

On the Egyptian flight they had harnesses for children between the windows so you could strap them up against the fuselage.

I think as long as the pilots recognize this and don't do any fancy flying - and as long as the runways are long enough that the angle of climb can be quite flat - well why not?

my people can get a family of five on a bicycle. that would translate to 200000 or so on the airbus! chaching!

If you had ever actually been to Asia lately, you would not want any close contact with anyone. Between the bugs and the stench, you would probably go postal before you could escape.

Have you seen how they pack onto buses and trains. At least they'll all be inside....I hope.

teenerted1 04-25-2006 03:44 PM

boy are you people suckers. the story had already been debunked by lunch...airbus denied the story came from them...and FAA doubtful to approve such...

nize 04-26-2006 06:30 PM

Why not?

Better yet, maybe they should charge us like cargo while they treat us like cargo? I wouldn't mind paying by the pound and cubic foot.

Someday we'll just take a pill to knock us out, get stacked in the plane and delivered in the oversize baggage claim. (air version of the Japanese hotel "cells")

Heck, after flying Southwest out of ABQ for a few years now, I'm delighted when I get an assigned seat on another airline.

So you didn't read the links? The second link was Airbus denying. And what say would FAA have in what the Asian markets did anyway?
