I don't know much technical data on this product, I pruchased mine based on what I saw,

My first flat pannel was a 32" Westinghouse LCD TV/Monitor, so far so good. I used this for my home office

My second one was a 50" Samsung Plasma (the one with the black speakers) it had the second best picture next to the Pioneer Elite. Both of these were in the middle price range but seemed to have better colors and resolution.

I just went through this as well. If you are going plasma, the Panasonic professional-series (business/industrial) HD displays are the best out there IMO. A close second would be the Pionner Elite models. Some think they are the best, but I think the Panasonic prof. have a slight edge, and they are cheaper.
The best Panasonic consumer plasma is the "Onyx" IMO.

The panasonic professional-series model #'s are:
TH-42PHD8UK (42")
TH-37PHD8UK (37")

The panasonic consumer-series "Onxy" model # is:
TH-42XVS3OUP (42")

Pioneer Elite model:
PRO-930HD (42", marketed as 43")

But, after all that reasearch/viewing, I ended up going with a 52" Panasonic rear-projection HD LCD (PT-52LCX65). The reasons being that I really wanted a bigger screen, and it cost about half of what the 50" plasmas did. Also, I wasn't too conscerned about saving space (although it's pretty darn slim for it's size), and wouldn't have mounted the plasma on the wall anyway.

IMPORTANT:

Do you need an HDTV, or just a HIGH DEF MONITOR?

Research showed me that in my area, with COMCAST, I must use their "converter" (tuner), so an HD TV will not use its tuner at all. I bought a 50" Vizio HD Plasma monitor from Costco for the cost of a 42" plasma TV (less than $2500).

Ah yes, that reminds me of another reason I went with that particular rear proj. LCD model (noted above): It has a built in "cable card" reader, so you can receive cable/HD sources without a "set-top box". You just need to call your cable provider to see if they offer cable card service. It also has an HDMI input so external sources w/HDMI output (HD receivers, up-scaling DVD players, etc.) can be used to their full potential. ;)

Ditto on the LCD projection. I have the Sony 55" and it's pretty amazing. It's HDTV ready righ out of the box. No, cannot hang it on the wall, but who cares :) Also, if you live at altitude (>6000') be wary of issues with Plasma. Heard this from almost every shop when I was buying.
