I'm unemployed!
Feels really weird, I got up this morning and didn't have a job to go to. Same thing for tomorrow.
I start my new job on Monday and I took a couple of days off in-between, but it still feels kinda wrong knowing that at this minute, I don't have a job. I don't know how some people do it. |
Well congratualtions, what are you going to be doing?
I went through the same thing just a few months ago, but I actually liked being unemployed for a short times, I got to experiece "retirement" as I call it for a short period of time. I got to tell you, I work part time now as a consultant and I dont mis working full time at all. |

I got layed off 6 months ago unexpectedly.....I fell into a new better position in 10 days. I wish I had pushed the start date back and relaxed for a while but at the time...it just felt so wrong (like you said).

I took 3 weeks off between jobs a few years ago. I used the time to tile my garage! :-)
|
I took two months off between jobs four years ago (had a bit of savings) and drove around the country in a big loop from NY to FL, CA to MI. I went to all the major national parks (most I'd never been to), car museums, and stayed with friends and relatives I hadn't seen in years. Best two months of my life.

A steady pay check is a good thing
Since 1978 I've only had 10 days off between jobs once in 1982. In these times just happy to have a salt mine. |
Time off between jobs can be some of the best time. No obligations for a few days and you know you have a job coming up.
|
Was layed off for 5 months twice in the last 15 yrs. It got scary towards the end of each layoff, but man, I got alot of car and airplane work caught up with during those times.
|
Worked steadily since 1976, with one "break" during the summer of 1999.
My yard was the envy of the entire neighborhood :D But you're right...some mornings you get up and it just feels wierd. And I must admit it felt a little wierd parking a 911 at the local unemployment office. I can only imagine what other people thought. I tried to view the whole experience as "practice" for retirement... |
I've been off for nearly 3 months now. Starting to get bored. Independent consulting is feast and famine. 3 months between gigs is nothing unusual in my line of work. Worked on the car some, but mainly sit around all day and refresh the Pelican forum screen every minute or so.

Can you get a job on this site...I have been looking since last year. Unemployment ran out last month. The midwest is job hell 200 people for every job. I have been trying to get something in the Seattle area but no luck...yet. Does anyone live near Bellvue or Mercer Is? I have been thinking about selling the car but then I would have no way to get groceries.
Are there any city planners out there that have any openings? |
We're looking for a few good product designers (appliances) here in NC if anyone is interested. PM me for details

We get an 8 week sabbatical every 7 years. I took mine last October and it was very weird the first two weeks not going to work. The cool part was still getting my regular paycheck and getting to experience what it's like to be retired. Needless to say my percpective has changes alot since then and my goals have shifted to retiring as soon as financially possible.

I've always taken at least one week off between jobs. It's good to decompress a bit before starting at a new place.
|
I have 5 weeks of paid vacation every year. I usually take July of and save a few days to use around Christmas and new year.
I'd say its a good feeling the first monday :) |
