VW / Audi technical forums

So the day has finally come... I can actually contribute instead of just lurking in the Porsche technical forums and posting in OT.

On the other hand... does this mean OT is going to be full cheapskate, low-life, mouth-breathing VW owners??

I hope not...(J/K).

One of my good friends works for Bosch and has a 400 hp Golf. I'm sure he'll find this forum sooner or later.

vwvortex was great in 1999-2000 or so.

Vwvortex is where poodle-walking metrosexuals go to fight about their favorite oil and tire brands. (IMHO)

Did you come to this forum because you aspire to own a Porsche or because you enjoy the (mostly) witty banter?

Both.

In fact, I'd own a 911 if it wasn't for this damn forum. A couple years ago I was about to buy a 75 911S. Came across this PPI guide about 4 hours before I went to look at it. Good thing, otherwise it'd be in my garage (on stands). Instead, I went out and bought a sailboat that was probably a worse investment than the Porsche would've been.

I stuck around to lurk in the technical forums and read up on 911's as I saved. I've looked at a couple cars since, but they're mostly either crap, or overpriced up here. An SC you'd pay 12k for in the states goes for 16-18k up here. That's if you can find one that isn't a rustbucket. I'll probably end up buying across the border.

Anyway, it'll be interesting to see how Wayne does on the VW side of the fence. There was obviously a significant gap in the market he was able to fill with both Porsche parts & technical info. There are already quite a few good VW forums & parts sources, but Wayne's business acumen & integrity could put him at the head of the pack. I know I'll support him.

Just crank up a good VW tech board and pop the clutch on it. VW owners are about 100% web savvy, if the size of VW vortex was any indication. (#1 web BBS in the world at one time)?

As an added bonus, a lot of them are pinkos and we could really use the help over here on the OT board.

I've been a 'vortex member since 1998. Had a 91 GTI, then a Corrado VR6. I was big into VW's in college...but the culture of hot rod h20 vw's changed noticeably and dramatically with the MKIV cars/Fast n furious (pop) culture. You used to see older guys with callaway rabbits, oettinger-engined cars (especially an evil 2.1 16v oettinger scirocco that pulled on my cvr6!) etc, and sometme around 2000-2001 it turned into blowoff valves, 18" wheels etc ie would-be Honda kids coming over to the VW scene.
No thanks. There is a big difference in the quality of the advice and information found on 'vortex now, compared to the old days. Take it a step further: go back and look at the old Watercooled VW FAQ list and Watercooled VW newsgroups. Fantastic stuff in there.
European Car magazine went ****ty around the same too. Remember the old days of that magazine? Great real world info, how-to stuff, neat project cars....
