big public thanks to paul (pwd72s)... :)

paul,
thought i'd thank you publically on the forum for the awesome gift of the cassettes and your time in making the dubs, going to the trouble of mailing, etc. you're a hell of a nice fella, as we say down southways.. :)

paul and i both have large vinyl collections and he very graciously made 4 cassettes of vintage driving music from the old days. i can hardly wait to dive into it! just my luck my cars are cd only, but i can listen in my office..and transfer to cd's later. wish i couldpost all the tunes, but there's 88 of them on the master list..don't know if paul has the list in his computer to be able to post..but don't nobody go to badgerin' paul for more copies..if everyone did, he'd be dubbin' day and night! ;)

thanks again, paul..you da man, buddy! SmileWavy

thanks for the list! it's unbelievable. bet my dad will recognize a slew of 'em (he's 66). yes, you can do the transfer to cd. i installed some software 2 years ago when my mom made a tape recording of me playing a dozen tunes on the piano. somehow i was able to run a cable into my computer and save them as files..maybe .wav? i don't recall. from there, it wasn't too hard to burn to cd. of course the quality sucked. she just set an old jc penney tape recorder on top of the piano..no mike or anything..lots of noise in the recording.

Ryan, You'll have to let your dad listen...;) But hey...keep breathing long enough to make your 60's, okay? Actually, there are some good things about crossing that mark. One of 'em is not having to prove anything. :D

Where's Highway Star? :D

That song list is from the Hot Rods & Custom Classics boxed 4 CD set that Rhino issued a few years ago. Still availalble new, usually for less than $40 for the set on eBay, or at full retail on Amazon. I've never seen it on vinyl.

I got one as gift not long ago.The box is the same dimensions as an old Revell model kit, with lots of other cool extras.

If anybody rides a 911 west of the Mississippi it only makes sense to stop at Paul's place.

Paul and I could use a little 21st Century update.

Is the “current best way” to have a music collection - to download MP3 files to your PC and then load them into a player? iPod? What is the best source for tunes?

Best,
Grady

bigchillcar 05-02-2006 09:43 AM

grady..download 'limewire'..search for anything you want. it's shareware software. most of what i download is usually pretty obscure stuff and i always seem to find those tunes on it. not really sure of the legalities of using it..may be a gray area..but for no more than i download, my sins are lightly venial at best. ;)
