SCO Unix to Linux
 

Hi,

I need to be able to mount a HTFS file system under Linux. Everything I have come up with says that this cannot be done due to SCO being unwilling to share there code. If I cannot mount HTFS under Linux, how can I get 50 megs of data off of a SCO version 5 system? I know Linux fairly well, but I have not had too much practice on SCO. I was able to add, create an FS and mount an HTFS drive under SCO. But this does not help.

The server is old, has no CD burner and the tape backup has failed.

Can you boot the old server and just use scp to copy it somewhere ? Failing that, maybe one of the BSDs can read it from a install disc, then you can copy it...

And what with teh SCO vs. IBM hoopla, you'd think they'd let FS info go Open? :)

The old server is up and running. I do not think that it has any network access. It is a single server setup using multiple dumb terminals.

I do have OpenBSD floating around somewhere...

I could not find anything on the old driver.

You need to figure out some way to get the data off the server. This means you may need to install a new tape drive or a CD burner (if you have the software for that). Or how about installing a network card in the SCO box?

The problem with installing tape/cd-burner is that I do not know enough about SCO to make it work. It would take me some time that I do not have to learn. Network card could work.

Cool. You'll probably have to get an older network card that is the same vintage as the version of SCO you have. Let me know if you have trouble locating an older card. I might be able to dig something up that I haven't used in years.

The place where the server is, is miles from my office and they have very little windows of opportunity for me to take over the server. I guess next trip I will take my laptop that has Linux and see if I can't get the two to talk and scp the files over. thanks!

One option I tried was to get a HDD formatted with Xenix FS, but SCO did not like that even though it semms to be compiled into the kernel. I have a SCO SCSI HDD that came from a different company that I have been playing with at work. I do not know if how close the two OSes are.
