Who is on Your iPod?

I had an amusing conversation with a younger co-worker today after we took a look at what we each have on our iPods. I only have the little "Shuffle" version, but the variety on mine kind of surprised him. I guess I have weird tastes. He claimed "you can tell a lot about some one by what is on their iPod". Hmm... sorry it's kind of long, but here goes:

3Doors Down, AC/DC, The Band, The Beatles, Big Bill Broonzy, Big Head Todd and the Monsters, Bob Dylan, Bob Marley, The Clash, Coldplay, The Corrs, Cowboy Junkies, Cream, Credence Clearwater, CSN&Y, Dave Mathews, Deep Purple, Dire Straits, Eagles, ELP, Eric Clapton, Frank Zappa, Genesis, George Thorogood, Grateful Dead, Green Day, The Guess Who, Howlin' Wolf, Jethro Tull, Jimi Hendrix, John Lee Hooker, Johnny Cash, Jonny Lang, King Krimson, Leadbelly, Led Zeppelin, Lightnin' Hopkins, Linkin Park, Lucinda Williams, Mississippi John Hurt, Muddy Waters, Neil Young, Nora Jones, Pink Floyd, Precious Bryant, Rickie Lee Jones, Rod Stewart, Ry Cooder, Santana, Sarah McLachlan, Sheryl Crow, Slim Harpo, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Syd Barret, Supertramp, T-Bone Walker, Tom Waits, Trapt, Van Morrison, Weezer, The Yardbirds, and Yes.

This is the current list; it's subject to change as I get bored with it. I'm not sure what it says about me, but there you have it. Any others?

Way too many to list

I have over 4000 songs on my 20GB 4G but like you it is an extremely varied collection of music from classic rock to rap music and everything in between

I really gotta get me one of those things. My kids have them. My daughter pointed out that my 6 disk CD player in my car will hold about 90 songs, her IPod holds thousands. Says she'd never spend the money on a CD player in a car or anywhere else again.

Jeff Higgins 05-03-2006 07:48 PM

My collection of artists that are not currently on my iPod is several times that that are. It sucks having the Shuffle; I'll have to pony up for the bigger one. I have about half a dozen play lists that I've put together that will fit on the Shuffle. There is some overlap between the artists on my various lists, but not much. Literally everything from symphony orchestra and big band to grunge and everything inbetween. Some of it nowhere between. Except for rap; that is about the only place I don't go musically. Preferences are blues and blues based rock, with early psychedelic and "prog rock" just to spice it up.

It's pretty cool what has happened as far as availability of older and/or more obscure music in the last ten years or so. I used to cruise the used record stores; now I just surf Amazon. Just amazing what you can find on CD these days. Maybe it takes some of the fun out of the hunt, but the music makes up for that.

RANDY P 05-03-2006 10:04 PM

No more carrying around CD's - get the IPOD adaptor for the car and you're set. No more scratches, busted stuff, etc.

I never knew how versatile the IPOD really is, until I actually lost my big CD case one day -I haven't seen it for months.

I just drove from Los Angeles to Portland in a BMW 635csi, toured upper Oregon and S. Washington for a few days.

8G of music hooked up to an Alpine with iPod direct interface from the deck, it was awesome.
