S.J.RES.12 Title: A joint resolution proposing an amendment to the Constitution of the United States authorizing Congress to prohibit the physical desecration of the flag of the United States. Sponsor: Sen Hatch, Orrin G. [UT] (introduced 4/14/2005) Cosponsors (57) Related Bills: H.J.RES.10 Latest Major Action: 5/4/2006 Senate committee/subcommittee actions. Status: Committee on the Judiciary Subcommittee on Constitution, Civil Rights and Property Rights. Approved for full committee consideration without amendment favorably. Flag Amendment-Yesterday the Senate’s Judiciary subcommittee on the Constitution in executive session approved the Flag Amendment S.J. Res12, and sent it on to the full Judiciary Committee for a vote. The Subcommittee’s vote was 6 for and 3 against. Committee Chairman Spector and Sub-Committee Chairman Brownback, and Senators Feinstein, Coburn, Cornyn, Graham, voted for the Amendment while Senators Durbin, Feingold and Kennedy opposed the resolution. The next hurdle is the full Judiciary Committee. There are only 57 co-sponsors to Senator Orrin Hatch’s (R-UT) Resolution, which is nowhere close to the 67 needed to pass a Constitutional Amendment. Below is the present list of co-sponsors and those not co-sponsoring. If your Senators is not a co-sponsor, please call and ask them to support it. If they are co-sponsors please call and thank them. Yawn. Neo-cons raising the BS issues while the serious work of our nation languishes. Iraq. Border security. Illegal aliens. Budget out-of-control. Too hard? OK, how about a US Constitution ammendment for the anti-gay-marriage-anti-abortion-pro-school-prayer special interest group, too? Don't wanna miss that constituency.

Even Sen. Lamar Alexander, with his token introduction of a non-binding measure to make English the only language for our National Anthem, is in on the con. Tossing us crumbs. |
I respect my country's flag, but I don't see this being that big of an issue. People will burn something else if they can't do a flag. I find American's burning a US flag to make an anti US statement to be extremely rediculous, but I don't see that as reason for making a law against it.

well said. now, let's get out lawmakers do their real job, not this con job that plays to some people's emotions.
