my barn find! it may affect my 911 :(

ok, i am not getting rid of the SC. but i found a 1969 camaro. with Z28 badges, so the VIN will tell. trouble is that my house is only equiped with a 1 car garage. the camaro has been taken apart for the restore that never happened. all the parts are there, cept the seats. non numbers matching motor, muncie 4 speed. two sets of rally wheels. 14 and 15's, owner elected to buy fiberglass hood, and fenders. car has hail damage. (austin texas). here is the kicker. i can get everything for the great price of FREE! basically, i have to call YEAR 1, order parts and start the restore. well, bribe my diesel truck owning little brother to drag that thing across the country for me. but he owes me, i gave him a 911.

the 911 and 69 camaro are my TWO favorite cars. (with the 73 3.0CSi a very close second). what to do? get the best car cover, money can buy for my 911? park it in the driveway, and get busy with the american muscle? damn, i thought i would buy it from him a year from now, he just called me tonight.

'69 350/350 w/4.10 gears is wild.

I had a '71 split bumper w/3.73 and a wide ratio tranny for great street and decent hy. I used teak w/ gun checkering and black glove leather in the interior. Koni's with 6 leafs + nice Moog ft springs raised it 3" all around. This thing was a Bkln' and Queens jungle cruiser. It would eat up constant pot holes and busted roads easily. I guess your investment is better served w/stock RS.
.. and them came along my bro's 911.

all the best to you.

Cliff, if it's the Z28, it has a 302 in it.

Also, my favorite musclecar. Do it.

My favorite musclecar too. Do it +2.

Rent a place in a self-store if you have to. Congrats!

Aaah, memories. My 2nd car was a 69 with M21 and a cammed 350. Also had a 67 that started out with a 250 and PG and when I was done had a 408"SBC T350 and 4:10 12 bolt in the rear.... 11 seconds on radials...

There isn't a day tghat goes by that I don't want to buy another Camaro of some sort to fool with. I grew up on those.

As for this thing- Count the leafs in the back. Memory serves me correct it'll be a 4 springs per side. Also, no Z/28's had AC. Front wheel discs. In some ways it may be better it ISN'T a Z/28 - so when you hack it out you won't feel guilty.

I'd be running for a plasma torch to fit mini tubs and it would get large displacement ASAP.

Damn bro, you scored.

There's room at my place.

You're gonna need all new SAE tools, too.

Nice barn find!

I love 69 Camaro's also. I have a 69 SS-396 375 HP matching numbered car with M-22 rock crusher 4-spd and 12 bolt posi. It was a barn find for me when I found it in June of 2000 also.

Porsche 911 people seem to really like 69 Camaro's as we have talked about before on here.

Another lover of the old Z cars. '69 was my favourite year as well and hope you can restore it.

I spent 3yrs/ 4 nights average week riding shotgun in a '67 Camaro same engine w/4.56 then 4.88, same tranny. We were street racing back in the day. 6-8 mi/gal. Changed plugs Fri evening. The owner took on tricked hemis. The guy who bought it totaled it in a week.

Absolutely one of my all time favorites too.

Of course a 69 Z28 can not be compared to a vintage 911. They are both awesome but totally different. If I had to choose I would still go with the Porsche. Not an easy decision, mind you.

Good luck!

Flame suit is on.... Check.

Do you really want to waste years of labor on a Crapmaro restoration?
Save your time and money for a 911 project.

If you do it, I'll help you restore it. If you don't do it, get a S2000 and I'll help you drive it.

You may want to evaluate what it'll be worth after you fix it up; could be less than what you'd spend, let alone all the time you'd have in it. Be interesting to see if it's a Z/28 and if the engine's a 302.

Any pics?

i dont really want an original. (i smell an american clone project) i would love a fuel injected crate motor, with AC. something i dont need to smog, and i can drive everyday. and much to my chagrin, i dont think i can get any of the money back on any of my car projects. my 71 camaro job was totally upside down.

by good friend's cousin is a fantastic camaro restorer here in the bay area, so i have a good reference. i am calling him later.
