Guitar guys- Two exotic Oriental in repose
I have had a long time interest in the guitars of K.Yairi, a small Japanese luthier. Yairi is sold in the US under the Alverez name, in the ROW as K.Yairi.
They have proved as rare as hens teeth around here. Tracking down a lead, I found these for sale by a retiring musician. Carpel Tunnel in the hands, cant play anymore. Imagine. The 6 is an Orchestra sized guitar, a WY-1. Its in good condition, except for the top, which is beaten. Its has lived a professional life. Doesn't worry me at all. It packs an amzing punch for its small bodied size, and plays just beautifully. The 12 is something else. I had no intention of buying, I don't like them, but on playing it, I had to buy it. Never played one that wasn't an egg slicer, this is just lovely. To compound my good fortune, these are signed on the lower on the lower bout, indicating that they are from Yairi's "Master Series". Both date from 1992. This qualifies as a genuine "barn find". The owner cut a deal so the guitars wouldnt be separated. They are the most beautifully artisan made things. They reinforce my opinion that the Japanese make some of the best guitars in the world. Cheers Stuart ![]()

Yairis are sweet guitars. I looked at a couple a year or so back when I decided that I needed to replace my sold Martin 00-21 (bought it new in '74). I couldn't quite find "the one", as I'm a OO/OOO kinda guy and it seems most of the Yairis I found were dreadnaughts. Finally found a very clean 000-18 on eBay that I'm happy with. But looks like you scored some very nice guitars.
