Unless they are cruising down the Rio Grand at warp speed I don't see why they need this. Maybe if they also rescue people in the mountains (off road) it could come in handy.
Still cheaper than a helicopter, but a Surburban towing a couple ATV's and a small hovercraft would be cheaper and cover more ground/water for less money. Click on the picture, more of the article comes up. Neither article says where, who or why they need this vehicle's special ablities. Maybe they get gas free? It is Texas.

My bet is that Geiger really built it on spec as an advertisement of their capabilities. It's not really for a Sheriff, that Inspector General/Auditor of whatever county that was would have a fit (fraud, waste and abuse). Look at how much traction it's getting on the web though. I never heard of Geiger before. Now I have.
That thing looks like a maintenance nightmare and what hick-county motorpool could service it? That Sheriff looks a little too flashy/borderline metrosexual to be legit.

even funnier yet, why would you outsource building a 700HP Chevy engine? to anyone in Europe Why would you need to?
Some of the best engine builders in the world are based in TX. rjp PS - that thing is G@y as hell. It's being marketed to soccer moms who want the latest in "performance"- with Euro flair.. rjp

This is a disturbing trend that most tax payers are unaware of.
I've witnessed some dump trucks being made right now for the city of Barstow ( Hot city ) that run on liquid natural gas. The huge fuel tank is so low to the ground it crazy. The tank even has to have it's own cooling system to keep the fuel at the proper temp so the engine will run properly. It will probably need support vehicles to keep it fueled in the real world. I can just see these trucks at auction in a few years being sold for penny's on the dollar. Probably for scrap. I've also seen some U S Forestry 4x4 trucks for sale recently with utility body's. They were so high off the ground (like a monster truck) you needed a latter to get in the truck or it's tool boxes. There were several for sale that were just a few years old and had just a few thousand miles on them. Engineering and spending running a muck ? |
