Mirror Pelican site has all your ID and posts

Do a search using Yahoo or Google with your "user name" as the search word.

Your user profile.........

Your Posts...........

........Most likely all being mirrored and copied by dozens of spyware sites.

I don't know how or why this is happening. I found this out on another forum I post at which requires personal infomation which is not supposed to be viewable to others (like birthdate) but now is.

What information do we inscribe which is not supposed to be viewed by others excepting administrators? If there is any it may now be at risk.

I'll leave it to you I.T. experts who post here to help out on this area.

Can anyone just visit the Pelican site and click your user profile? Sure they can, always could, but now it's not this site it's a mirror site by hosted by some wackos.

Hmm just did this and didn't come up with anything but my Pelican posts...

scottmandue 05-13-2006 01:45 PM

Same here, just came up with Pelican, the watch form, and motorcycle form I use this name on.

But then I never cruise the Internet without a triple layer aluminum foil hat.
:D

But seriously, have you run any anti-spyware on your computer? You may have a little friend on your computer.

928ram 05-13-2006 01:50 PM

I tried it and it came up with the same page as clicking "profile" did, not a mirror site. (forums.pelicanpart.com/etc...)

Are you logged in with cookie to Pelican or do you log in on every use? If the former, you'd be taken to any part of PP that's allowed such access; the latter would require a login to view certain areas(?).

Interesting, it pulled up all sorts of threads from different forums from long ago!

kach22i 05-13-2006 03:39 PM

I installed Ad-Aware and Spybot search and destroy less than a year ago. I had something like two thousand pieces of garbage on my computer. I typically have virus protection like Trend Micro's PC-Cillin.

It's possible that my information as well as the other guy who has the same problem in the other forum was snagged either by loophole or before such protection was applied.

I'm open to ideas about what to do about it.

There is something called "gator11" which shows up, maybe mirror site was not the proper term.

EDIT:

I'm told this "C-Panel" thing is something which crosses many servers.

It is connected to the problem in the other forum I mentioned. It is not a Pelican problem - sorry.

The gator thing as a copy/mirror of posts either partial or complete may be an individuals personal problem. I am far from being an expert on this - please feel free to educate me on how things work and what the F is going on.

Floating in cyberspace, kach22i.

This has been going on for years now.

This is why I kept telling several people to take their company name off of their profile as doing a search on Yahoo or Google for your Pelican name will return hits leading to your posts here on Pelican.

This might not be good for business and the two should be separate IMHO.

Doing google searches, I learned there is a beautiful town named after me.......

Kach22i, your being a bit parranoid. Drivewerks is part of the Pelican kingdom. If I'm not mistaken, Wayne had posted the site here last year to ask if we liked it.

Now Gator, thats another issue. If you are talking about gator networks, now that is spyware....

I found that there's some playstation cowboy using fastpat, claiming to be the one and only. Not. I've had this name for over 10 years, and own fastpat.com.

id10t 05-14-2006 04:17 PM

Should we get his panties in a wad by telling him now that google has it indexed, you can get it out of the Great Google Cache?

Besides... being indexed and searchable is what the 'net is about. If you didn't want it searched/indexed/archived, you shouldn't have put it out there to start with.

1967 R50/2 05-14-2006 04:22 PM

I came up with nothing except motorcycles.

i think she means "Keri"

kach22i 05-15-2006 02:37 AM

I thought the two DriveWerks links I gave were strange because the browser I was using did not work when I clicked on any of the links - just like a fake one would act.

I'm not sure what all that crazy stuff about the year "2017" is about in the other link. Does this have something to do with cars or the end of the world? What are you into Wayne?

I just don't get it.

What are you trying to tell us?

Are you buying "futures" or something?

Let's hold hands in 2017 and talk to the president - WTF?

I just don't get why a car parts business has a link to some of this stuff.
