Latex Over Oil
While painting the interior of my house I accidentally applied latex paint over oil on several door and door caseings. A professional painter looked at it and said this is a major no-no, it will peel and scratch easily. While it is possible to scratch the new paint off it takes a fair amount of effort. I'm wondering if I should remove the latex and start over? All the local paint stores tell me to scrape and repaint... what a major P.I.T.A. So - here is my quetion - has anyone here painted latex over oil and had a positive long term result?

If it looks good, leave it until it needs help.
If you have young kidlets, doors will take a beating. Other than that, they just sit there, without much abuse. Modern paint formulas are more compatable than they used to be. Yes, you did it "wrong", but I'd let it go. Last edited by Dantilla; 05-29-2006 at 02:20 PM.. |

I think the latex will just crackle as it shrinks(water/solvent evaporates) and there is nothing for it to grip to. Or just coat it again. Try "grip 'n seal" primer for the difficult stuff..
