Attempted slamming by Corvette Car Club

Was out in the P car the other fine sunny day and my wife wanted to stop at the famous chocolate shop there. I pull down into the trees and driveway and there are probably 25-30 Corvettes parked all around. I said jokingly that it looked like hostile territory as I parked.

The wife heads straight to the goodies and I get out and just hang outside and see 5 or 6 of the "C" car guys approaching.

One of them starts talking...no hello, or hi....just the first thing out of his mouth was, "One of my friends had a Porsche and now he has a Vette, he said he would never have another one. " I just nodded my head and said, "Huh".

Then he went on and on about bad design and rear engines and such and I just listened to him about what his car could do and a Porsche could not. None of the other guys even spoke.

About the time I was about ready to cut him off, my two kids in the back seats got out. All I said was, "Let's see your Vette do that." All his buddies busted out laughing at him and he walked away.

The other guys were real nice and like me and just appreciate everyones cars and choices and bs'd about the cars.

Dickheads with plastic teeny weenies and gold chains....move along....

"The other guys were real nice" -- yes, most are fine.

I've seen a lot of gold chains on 911 drivers in Calif. too.

The new 'vette is a killer.

I gave up on 'Bling' when I got the 911.

I now go for 'Blam'!

Two points......and he draws the foul! Great response, man.

Always fun to watch someone start a "battle of the wits" when they show up unarmed.

Does he has gold chains everywhere with golden brace teeth, and spit everywhere while talking to you? :D

Just on the way home today (no speeding, no agressive driving, no racing anyone. Just driving leasurely around 90 or so on open road freeway), there was a brand new 350Z passed me agressively and cut in front of me really closed, only 2 or 3 feet. Right after cut in front of me, he rolled left and right and I saw brake light flashed hehe. I came up a little after to see what is going on but couldn't see anything because the windows was all limo black.
Why there are so many people just have to thrash a P? doesn't matter what kind/cond of a P. I guess we all know the anwer.

I remember back in the 6th grade, a teacher once told me that people who pick on others are jealous or insecure.

I woulg guess that the guy with the mouth falls into that category!!

Funny,

I was reading this thread the other day (found it on rennlist)http://forums.corvetteforum.com/showthread.php?t=1389722
but its was funny to read some of the owners views concerning Porsche.

Now I understand this guy was going to go up against a GT2 but still the reactions are funny.

Going by their views and opinions..some have gotten spanked before, and only wish to avoid more pain. Smart !

i was at an PCA AX this past saturday with a friend of mine in her vette, and every time she finished a run she could hear the folks in the timing trailer saying bad things about her car over the radio. so porsche people can be asses just as much as any other marque's group. it hurt her feelings and was out of line to the point that her instructor went to the trailer in between run and spoke with the trailer workers. i suppose it's a safety in numbers thing, and there is going to be a jack-ass in nearly every group.

The local vette club will not even let me run an AX with them, so what does that say about them compared to porsche lovers? not sure, but a sports car is a sports car, and i am comfortable enough with my car and who i am to let it blow over. try it sometime.

scottmandue 05-17-2006 07:55 AM

There are car guys and there are guys who have cars to prop up their image of themselves. (this guy was obviously the later)

So before the gold chain and mullet comments get too out of hand keep in mind that to some of Joe public a guy driving any sports car is a poser (or compensating).

I like all kinds of cars, from old 20's American iron to new mega-supercars.

Great link! Thanks for the insight. The posts are long on facts and short on bluster. Have to agree, many appear to have been spanked.

This also reflects the growing sophistication of Vette owners. The cars have gotten much, much better C5 > C6, and more savvy people are drawn to them.

Saw a new corvette this weekend. Nice car. The guy was about 70.

Back in the 90's they were all about 60.

Back in the 80's they were all about 50.

Back in the 70's they were all about 40.

Back in the 60's they were all about 30.

Back in the 50's (so I am told) they were in their 20s.

So - what about 10 years from now????? Poor GM.

P car owners can be just as bad. There was a local track day from rennlist recently, my daughter and I showed up just to watch. We were basically chased away. Don't park there (more vehicles in front of us), don't stand there, etc. Really sad was that the water cooled guys thought the 356 was a vw....

gustaf 05-17-2006 08:05 AM

Many years ago I had a VW Corrado VR6 and went to an Auto X that was sponsored by the Corvettes of Mass club. They put me into their "unlimited class" that had a bunch of hopped up Vette's and I came in second in the class. They were all pretty surprised but no negative comments were made.

Haven't auto x'ed my 911 yet but as soon as I feel my suspension is up to snuff, I'll be out there.

Tervuren 05-17-2006 08:13 AM

They keep bringing up the traction issue - its true. Despite taller gearing on my car, I blew my brother's out of the water. I've got 3.6 more inches of rubber in the rear, and a LSD. I have never dumped the clutch, but a hard launch won't even bring out wheel spin in the dry. Lightly chirp chirping, but that is it.

Some truth in that...and it doesn't have to be a 356. I find myself pulling away from the clubs scene, becoming a dropout. Cindy & I had a solo run yeaterday, through the backroads of rural Oregon. Found a nice small town park to take a coffe break in, etc. I've thought about buying a 'vette . Cindy refuses to allow it. Says she refuses to undergo enhancement surgery & she doesn't want to have her hair bleached...;)

There IS a lot of truth in that. Back when my 930 was running and I actually had a P-Car to take to the local events (hope to fire up the new engine this weekend), I was always so shocked at how little SOME of the **cough**cough**water pumper crowd**cough**cough ** knew or cared about the older iron. Not trying to generalize here, just stating what I observed from some individuals. I mean these guys would be off in one corner of the parking lot discussing which crest (gold or silver) would look better on the hood or which cell phone and/or iPod holder offered greater cockpit fung-shei. The guys who showed up with the old skool oil leakers (like myself) were there to talk about major DIY projects and were all over each other's cars checking out the engines and such - not just the accessories that get merely bolted on. Even though we all ventured to look at the "new" cars and ask questions, they never bothered with us. They could have cared less that an immaculate nut and bolt 356SC restoration was there. It just struck me as odd. Sort of put me off. I dunno, in their defense maybe they felt the same thing (that we didn't appreciate their cars)...however, they never ventured from their comfort zone to check out the older cars as we had done to come see theirs!

To each his own...
