Apple Store NYC Way Cool

The new Apple store on 5th Ave.

Open 24x7.

They even know how to do stores right.

The store is underground, you walk into the glass cube and down the spiral stair.

Perfect design that reflects the innovation and simplicity of all things Mac. Absolutely beautiful.

I hate it! That's the spot where the CBS Sunday Football show was broadcast. Arghhhh! Sure, Macs are cool, but turning the corner and seeing Dan Marino and Deon Sanders, c'mon, that can't compare!

Arghhhh! :D

*AHEM*

Perfect design, a glass house for high fashion posers to hang out at surrounded by towers full of Windows computers.

A glass house.....so empty......so unnessecary.....quite fitting for Mac.

:D

harddrive ducks for cover....

LOL! Moses. That reminds me: I'll be off line for a while as I have to reimage my Dell/Wintel laptop.

Amazing....., that part of the city is so cool with all of the evil media empires right there within walking distance. I was there on election night '04, watching CNN and Fox News broadcast through their windows. That city has such incredible *bounce* that nowhere else does.

BTW, how do you do a "screen capture" of a page on a Mac and then post it on the web, (like here)?

Denis,
Shift-Command (i.e. Apple)-3: Press all three in sequence saves a complete screenshot to a pdf file labeled Picture 1 (subsequent screenshots are numbered sequentially).

Shift-Command (i.e. Apple)-4: Allows you to selectively crop a portion of the screen to capture.

Open in Photoshop or equivalent and convert to jpg.

Hope this helps,
Sherwood

Adding the ctrl key to either of those 2 combos copies to the clipboard.

Where is the clipboard on this son-of-a-gun? (I am really non-web savvy, but learning).

Same as windows - in memory or swapspace. Get it in the clipboard, open a graphics application (gimp is Free and rivals photoshop) and paste it as a new image.

A $40 program called SnagIt allows capture of a video screen.

Was just at the Apple store here in London and it was very nice. What got my attention was the 30 inch dual screen unit that made my triple 21 inch screens look puny. Course the $6000 cost for the screens alone were a bit rough to take.

That said, would not use an Apple if they gave it to me. Using W2000 have not had a "blue screen of death" in over 4 years now and the computer runs 24/7/365.

Tablet PC.

Here's a Mac question. I usually use my PC for internet, word processing, bookkeeping and games. I currently use Microsoft Money for my bookkeeping, it's ok I guess. I know Mac can do the internet and word processing, how are the software titles for bookkeeping? And can you play games on a Mac? Can it use stuff written for PC or do you have to get Mac only stuff?

I know the games are stupid, but hey...it's a stress release for me.

I will need a new desktop when I move anyhow, am considering switching to Mac but not sure yet.

Thoughts?

Quickbooks Pro for Mac and many other apps available. For video, pictures and music, Mac has no equal. If you want virus and pop-up free surfing, get a Mac. With the new Intel based Macs, you can run any Windows apps you want, but be careful, they'll probably run faster.

Nathans_Dad 05-22-2006 08:33 AM

Hrm, maybe I will take a look at a Mac in the next year then...GASP. Never thought I would hear myself say that.

How are the Mac laptops? I have this grand dream of being able to do all my home computing on a nice little small laptop that won't take up my entire desk in my office. Pipe dream?
