Why do so many US Generals whistle when they talk?
I swear it is the weirdest mannerism and yet I'm amazed at how many US Generals on TV do it. Am I the only person who has noticed this? Is this something they learn at "General Training School"?

No, I haven't notice this. Are you describing a lisp, or some other kind of speech impediment? Or are they, consciously or un, making a "bomb drop" sound when they are trying to drive home a point?

I mean whistling through their teeth whenever they pronounce the letter "s". General John Batiste was doing it in his intereview with Chris Mathews on Hardball today. I've seen General Barry McCaffrey do the same thing as well as others. Funny thing is, I've only noticed generals doing it. Majors. colonels, captains etc seem to have no speech impediments. Just generals.

They know they'll never be in a forward position again.

They sucked up so much to make General that it left their mouth in a permanent unnatural position...hence the whistling sound when they talk.
Sorta like after Jimmy Carter visiting Castro, Saddam,...or Elvis in N. Korea. |
