I knew something "down low" was doing my thinking, but I never would have guessed it was my colon.

I did it a few years ago and at my age it is recommended every 5 years, didn't realize the procedure had even been done ( drugs can be a wonderful thing ) but had the urge to have a smoke after I came around. Preparation is the worst part. :D

You guys are making me laugh! A group of us had to go over to Denmark in 1999 for 6 months to start up a new flight ops for the factory. Meant getting our European licenses and medicals. The Danish medical system is pretty rugged as it took a day and a half to complete, where as the American exam takes 30 minutes or so. Four hours for an eye exam, bike with an ekg for 30 minutes and so on.

When it came to the prostate exam, the doc got the glove on and slathered his hand with goo and bent me over the exam table. He then proceeded to check the base of my skull with his hand, or so it felt. After picking myself up off of the floor he explained that at my age (was 45 or so then) that they want to check the upper portion of the prostate.

One of the least fun things I have ever done and glad to pay the $600 for a full body scan the next time it was due! Guess its better than dying...

Did he at least give ya a reach around....

Went to the Docs recently and had a finger stuck up my a$$ to check the prostrate..best thrill I've had in a long time...

Had a Colonoscopy about 7 or 8 years ago now.....they just kept feeding the BIG BLACK PIPE up my A$$, and I just kept on saying deeper...deeper....yeah baby that feels sooooo GOOD....

also in the distant past now I've had 2 Lower GIs where they fill your Colon with Barium and that feels like you havn't taken a dump for a month...They stick this short pipe with a balloon on it so U don't pop it all out during the exam...

I'm soooooooooo glad I got out of aviation after reading that. . .

just found out ive got an anal fissure. thought it was piles. the examination was...erm...intimate...

A colonoscopy is NOTHING!
No big deal at all. Even the prep is no big deal. You don't even have to drink that awful Go-lytely anymore. (Whoever named that product is one sick bastard.) Go-lytely? Go-violently is more accurate.

Get Fentanyl and Versed. Repeat after me... F-E-N-T-A-N-Y-L and V-E-R-S-E-D. If you doc doesn't use these routinely, your ass is in the hands of amateurs.

fentanyl. makes you feel like jezus...

My mother had colon cancer at 38. She's 61 now but had 60% of her colon removed. I had a colonoscopy this past year and I'm 35. Everything checked out fine.

I'm a big wus when it comes to medical procedures. If I can live through it anyone can. The new prep procedures were tolerable. I've heard horror stories about Go-lytely (go *****ly as my family Dr. calls it).

The fentanyl and versed were a trip. Appearently I called my dad to tell him everything went OK. I then called him about 4 hours later not recalling our previous conversation.

Get it done people!

Same here. To be a little less graphic, like doing number one from the number two port  All because my wife wouldn't believe my self diagnosis... had to see a GI guy to confirm it (and minus $1000+)

But ya got ta get it done, especially when you get to that age.

Bigyagi,
Think how the doc feels after he/she asks a patient to drop em, finds the Commando approach, and the patient is grabbing themselves. Look here doc!

I've had one already @ 43, I think that it's an every 5 year deal past 40 if normal risk group. (No special problems or health history). I also had heard that it was some horrible deal and I have to say that it was nothing. The prep was not at all like others are describing here, more like a mild laxative the night before. The actual procedure was done under some type of general anesthesia where I did not remember a thing and woke up feeling fine. My ass felt a little like I'd just been to cub scout camp, but no big deal. :)

Ain't nothin' goin' up my ass...PERIOD...It is unnatural...When I was a tot I went to an ER for some concussion or something, I guess I didn't cooperate and they had to insert a thermometer up my rectum...My eyes bugged out, I felt violated and swore to myself that that would never happen again.

If it is time to go it is time to go.

Mul,
Cancer is not that simple.

Mul,

With an attitude like that, the liberals will be praying that you get colon or prostrate cancer and soon.

Do not be a wussy, get checked out when you hit 40 or 45 but am told that everyone as well needs to get a "digital" check once you hit 30 or 35.

Its either that or die. Good friend of mine was on his sailboat last year, out in the ocean off of Cape Cod. Lucky for him his wife was along that day as all of a sudden he doubled over in pain so bad that he fell to the deck and could not move. She got the boat close to shore and called 911. They rushed him to the ER. Found prostrate cancer and it was touch and go whether he would live or not for a while. He survived and now is able to fly again, but it took almost a year to recover including the chemo.

Get checked! You do not want the liberals to outlive you!

I asked the doc if the colonscopy hurt, and he said "Nah, but the day before does". You get the meds that Moses mentioned and you don't feel a thing. To repeat, the doc told me that the polyps that he took out would have probably killed me in five years. Don't be stupid.

Rad Hatter 03-04-2007 03:34 AM

I must say Im really surprised with the peurile attitudes towards the colonoscopy exam. Yeah /.... its now mandatory in the firm I work with for executivess over 40 to have a check up...My surgeon who did the consultation said statistically /....one in 17 people have polyps, not all are cancerous
MOST OF MY MATES WHO HAVE HAD THE COLONOSCOPY had polyps....dont take the chance of not having the diagnosis.
