This month's excellence, good read.

I take several car mags, so I've read several articles on the new GT3 and 997TT. I was quite pleased with this month's excellence articles on the two cars. I realize Porsches are their only coverage but the excellence articles are so much better than the other mag's that I start to wonder if they really care about cars anymore.

If there are any excellence writers on the board, keep up the good work.

Now if Panorama could just be a fourth as good as Roundel, all would be well in the Porsche world.

The good thing about Excellence is that they're very familiar with Porsches, so they usually won't make dumb mistakes or focus on trivial details like reviewers from some other publications.

The bad thing is that they are so close to their subject that every review has the tone of "OMG, best Porsche EVAR!!!!" It's fun reading old issues of Excellence where they rave and enthuse over even the less inspiring Porsche products. Every praise is unqualified. Every complaint or flaw--no matter how major--is downplayed or trivialized. Excellence's reviews of tiptronics over the years are a great example.

I dropped it. Too many ads, too little tech. Used to like the Jim Pasha articles, though.

Heck, I get enough ads from Panorama and that comes with membership!!

I've noticed this too. You get the idea that some of the special-built cars they review are almost fatally flawed, but the reviewer is so awed by the sheer speed that they gloss over the flaw.

A phrase like this will often appear in the next-to-last paragraph of an article: "Of course, the gas tank does have a nasty tendency to explode upon every left turn, and a live wolverine was biting the back of my neck during the entire drive, but these are but nitpicking flaws that do not detract from the enjoyability of this particular car..."

I like all the ads, mmmmmmmmmmm shiny.

and yeah they do fall all over themselves praising Porsche's but come on they do have to play to their audience.

Like CJ said when I read the article on "the Yellowbird" (gorgeous car BTW) where they go on for pages about what a great car it is... then finish up with something like "around town it spews gas out the tail pipes but it wasn't built for that kind of driving".

I still find more good than bad in the magazine and will continue to subscribe.
