The Speaker of The CA Assembly Lies on Mexico
Today on the news I heard Fabian Nunez the Speaker of the California Assembly say "Mexico is our No.1 trading partner".
I checked on the U.S. Department of Commerce website and I found out the following Imports from Mexico: 3rd behind Canada and China Exports to Mexico: 2nd after Canada Net Balance of Trade: 5th Largest deficit after China, Japan Canada, and Germany. In fact, out trade deficit with Mexcio is about 2-2-1/2 times what it is with Venezuela and Saudi Arabia. And this is only official trade, not the monies that illegals send back checks and wire transfers. BTW, these stats are from 2005, but the rankings remain virtually the same as far back as 2000. Here's the link if anyone is interested Commerce Department Trade Deficits At the opening screen just click "Go" and then on the upper right you can toggle between imports, exports and trade balance.

We are importing a lot of oil from Mexico. And from Canada.

That may be true about oil. My point wasn't what we import, but the mistatements by the Speaker of the Assembly. They are not our No.1 trading partner.

Time for term limits...

From what I can see in CA term limits haven't worked. You get inexperienced politicians who get very little OJT and then they're hustling to get reelected and then hustiling to get another pig trough elected job somewhere else. I knew a few "career" politicians in CA who took ownership of their decisions because they expected to get reelected by those who judged their decisions. They thought they had term limits every two years. To me, a better solution would have been the propostion here in CA on redistricting, but none of the politicians liked that idea, because it put their seat, or their parties, potentially up for grabs.

Maybe by saying they are our #1 trading partner, he means that we enjoy trading with them the most. Politicians say all kinds of things that can be or might be considered true in one way, even though they may be factually incorrect. It's what they do.

Mr. Nunez rarely says anything that is worth while; I imagine overall he is a net negative, on positive things to say
