If the Republicans are the right, and the Democrats are the left, does this make the Independents the middle?

Like most of us.
Most people tend toward overall moderate viewpoints...at least those that I have had to deal with over the years. That being said, the extremes make the most noise. Not much sense, just noise.

Centrists are in the middle, Independents can go in many directions and will vote according to topics and problems (only puffed-up numbskulls call them 'issues') and not party lines.
