Sign you are driving too fast.

Sign you are driving too fast.

This was on our local RMR-PCA list this morning.

There was the claim: “No animals were injured making this picture.”

a dog on black leather? who would dare? just kidding (kind of)--- looks like a beamer though so i guess it's okay- my rhoseshian and my collie do not ride in the 911- not yet at least.

randywebb 05-31-2006 10:38 AM

they will

Too funny but I am guilty of giving my little girl a ride once in a while.

Too old for the show ring but still runds circles around other dogs in the hunting fields.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1149101050.jpg

If this sticker is blue you are driving too fast. - Red colored American Physical Society bumper sticker

:D

Good one Grady.

howiee 05-31-2006 10:54 AM

I didn't think I was going that fast but this officer thought other wise.

Nice Visla

Howiee that pic is just calling for a caption..
thanks my pups do get around.
Best comment I got was at the R-Gruppe gathering.
A guy said "Vizslas are the Porsche's of the dog breeds".

Awesome picture!

130lbs and a 911 ago...

Now he loves the backseat of the Subaru.

randywebb 05-31-2006 11:43 AM

the blue/red joke might be a bit esoteric for this "relatively slow" group of drivers...

AtomicDog 05-31-2006 11:49 AM

Randy,

I'm offended, sort of...

I almost laughed out loud at work. That would have been sure confirmation that I was goofing off. Close one.

Grady,
I think...
that is from the VW add for the VR-6.they were on tv, like three different ones, with the same basic idea.

wastintime 05-31-2006 12:07 PM

Randy, the astrophysicists amongst us are insulted

randywebb 05-31-2006 12:18 PM

maybe, so but all are "relatively slow" drivers...

For the less shifty crowd:

Lets say your decal is emitting red at 650 nm and the speeder observes it as blue at 450 nm.

ëemittedëobserved)/(ëemitted) =~ v/c where ë = lambda

v =~ 0.308 c ignoring special relativestic effects

v =~ (0.308) * (3 x 10^8 m/sec) = 9.2 x 10^7 m/sec

v =~ 210,000,000 miles per hour closing speed. Doppler blueshift officer, the light wasn’t red.:D

Grady, Grady, Grady...

You are never going to convince a cop that you thought the light was blue. It would be much more convincing to tell him that the light was still yellow.

Could you recalculate this for 590 nm? That would be a bit more useful.

bigchillcar 05-31-2006 01:49 PM

grady,
a 'numbers guy' like you..ignoring relativistic effects?? ohh the outrage..oh the shame.. ;)
ryan

Grady Clay 05-31-2006 02:52 PM

Wayne,

The yellow light is much more believable. The closing speed (from the cop’s perspective setting by the roadside) is only 6,200,000 miles per hour.

Ryan, from the speeder’s point of view he is only going 190,000,000 miles per hour. There is about 9% dilation at v = 0.308 c. Good ‘ol (1/(1+v^2/c^2)) = 0.913

If the speeder were driving a red car (no, the F-cars don’t go that fast) the cop would identify it as blue when coming towards him and an invisible heat (1100 nm) trail after he passed. Cool trick.

Who says Resnick & Halliday wasn’t worthwhile. I wish there were an updated and expanded version of Henry and Al in the Quantum Mechanical Universe. I’m jealous of those who had Goodstein or even better, Feynman. And I was even accepted at Cal Tech in '62 - the height of Professor Feynman's teaching.

Best,
Grady

Grady, in my neck of the city you can drive as you please. You have a free pass from me and my crew.

David
