Using out of state handicapped parking permit question
 
Please help as I can't find were to get this answered.

I will be traveling to Chicago with my mother. She has a California handicapped parking permit. I this usable out of California? :confused:

I would think so. I have seen people from out of state with handicapped plates parking in the handicapped spots. A quick check on the web shows that Florida accepts all out of state Hpp.
Contact the DMV in Illinois and see what they say.

On the one hand, you can call the DMV here in Illinois to try to find out. Good luck with that, as the answer you get is probably highly dependent on the civil servant you talk to.

On the other hand, someone would have to be a real d*ck, in my opinion, to write a ticket in this situation. You have the hangy thingy, right?

i have seen perfectly healthy out of state-ers use the placards here in cali. i do not even see a problem.

you mom will be fine.

I used mine in Mexico. I made sure I limped out of the car, as the wheel chair patrol was out.

my folks use their NM card up here all the time. and someone i know here used his in Portland,OR

should be universal just like your license plate.

We use ours when we travel with our son and have never had any problems.
We bring it with us and use it on rental cars with no problems as well

The parking permit is recognized throughout the US under Fed disability law.

If she's SS disabled she can apply for a Fed free pass to national forests and another specific to Calif parks.
