Best photo software?
 

Before each and everyone says Photoshop, just let me tell you what I need to do. I just finished a 4 month long rustoration on a '71 S for a Pelican employee. I have anbout 150 pics of the before, during and after. Mainly for him, but I'd like to have some copies of the CD to show or send to those that are interested.

The thing is, I need to sort and arrange (drag and drop, I presume) and add titles or captions as some of the pics sort of defy explanation.

How 'bout it? What would you use to do this efficiently? It would be nice to be able to caption a pic while still viewing the thumbnail. Loading each and every pic is not fun for me. I really don't need to edit the pics themselves. Most are framed good enough in the original shot.

Text is the biggie here.

I assume you are on a PC, you didn't specify. If you are wanting to add a unique caption your gonna have to open each image. If you just want to resize, rename, etc, you can use any number of programs that can do a batch conversion. Irfanview is a free program that can handle the batch functions.

The best way to do it so it comes out clean, would be to use Photoshop and just record an action for the repetitive steps.

If you just need to add captions on each photo, that can be done with Paint. Build right into the Windows OS. If you want something fancier, use paint.net. Absolutely free.

But it sounds like you want to make something more like a slide show. Have you considered Power Point? You can make a great looking slide show, and they can be viewed through Internet Explorer. Very easy to use.

Macs have some way of making slide shows, then exporting them as quicktime files. They look great.

My God man, have you seen iPhoto? Its reason enough to consider buying a Mac!

GIMP is touted as the free conterpart to Photoshop. I used for a short time and liked it.

I like Paint Shop Pro, but the newer versions are trying to be more "PhotoShop" and hence feature-glut. I just use it for simple operations like brightness/contrast and adding labels.

I agree on the PSP software. The older versions were just right as they were more intuitive and had a good mix of tools.

free download - picassa - now part of google - functionality is remarkably simple...renaming is completely simple (1 key)....plus has excellent photo editing. Works as well as google does.

I have something called "splash." Kind of a PITA, but it sounds likd most work about the same.
