Porsche Crest No more OT for the "Other Guys" me included

Too bad a few people really ruined for everyone else. Good thing is, pelican is around for those who remained polite and professional. Just in case anyone wonders why the hits Jump on Pelican OT.

If we had a separate "politics" section on OT, it would be a lot nicer place here.

Sure -- because then we could all agree on religion!

If a few folks were open to civil discussion and less focused on extremist zealotry, this would be a lot nicer place.

A separate Politics forum wouldnt fix the underlying issue. A course in manners might.

A "zealot" is someone who is more intense in their belief than me. Just because someone is firmly convinced in their beliefs doesn't make them a kook. Usually, personal attacks (not referring to the above comment but other wars in times past) only prove that the attacker doesn't feel they have a solid argument based on the facts so they resort to name calling. Agreeably disagree.

Maybe I miss most of the harsh threads, but I really think OT has become much nicer this last year.

If you do not participate in the Political / Religious threads PPOT is a pretty cool place to browse.

If I see a thread even remotely political I do not click on it, its that simple.

Nothing wrong with zealotry, one could make an argument that we're all zealots - Porsche zealots.

Extremists are what I have issues with - whether they're shooting abortion docters or burning Hummer dealerships and ski lodges, we could do without them.

Extremisim to the point of irrationality and tunnel vision makes them a kook.

The most underused words in here - "we should agree to disagree"

I think what adds to the difficulty of having civil online debate is that it's so hard to convey tone through written words. for isntance; someone tells a great joke, I reply :thats horrible!!
do i mean i dislike the joke, or that it is brutally/cynically comical and I enjoyed it?

It's amazing how interesting the world is when you can accept new ideas and stop categorizing everything in terms of "better" and "worse".
