What's up with Eddie Cheever?

Idiot:
A foolish or stupid person.
A person of profound mental retardation having a mental age below three years and generally being unable to learn connected speech or guard against common dangers.

LOL, for the second time in a half hour Eddie Cheever was accused of being an idiot by two different people because of his allegedly wreckless driving.
Danica said the idiot hit her and spun her out, but I didn't see it.
Then cheever hits Marco and sends him into the wall and Michael Andretti calls him an idiot and said he did it on purpose and doesn't belong on a race track.
Seems like IRL is tryng to take a page from NASCAR.

Rick V 06-04-2006 01:40 PM

He can't help it, his car is wider than the rest.
I don't see where he hit Danica either

Noah930 06-04-2006 02:01 PM

Just finished watching the race. If he hit Danica, that's a racing incident. Maybe it's his fault, but that's not necessarily reckless or totally out of line. But the Marco thing. That's indefensible. If he had so much trouble "just keeping [his] car straight" on cold tires, he should have simply conceeded the corner. Idiot.

Same problem he's always had: not enough talent and an oversized ego.

in a race car driver? say it ain't so...

Doesn't matter to me. All I can say is Cheever is a very intelligent and articulate guy. Can you imagine him and Al Jr, or Danny Sullivan in a conversation?

What's wrong with Cheever is in spite of his intelligence, he apparently never grew up. Not a bad thing, maybe, neither have I. :D

He really should go back to the chair in the pits. He's had his turn at the wheel. He was done in F-1. Got his ass kicked in CART and the only reason he is still around is IRL. They were so weak in the beginning, anyone with speedway experience could have won.

World's stupidest move: Ritchie Hearn (a very good driver in his youth, I think he's 36 now) left a ride in IRL for CART, where he too got his head handed to him due to lack of money/engineering. He could have owned IRL.

Alas, I think he grew up.

I agree, Milt. He does appear to be an intelligent guy. And certainly well-spoken. He should be a TV commentator or a team owner.

blah blah blah blah IRL blah blah blah blah

losers

coloradoporsche 06-04-2006 06:08 PM

He admitted that he "had contact" with Danica, FWIW.

tchanson 06-04-2006 07:37 PM

what,...was Arie busy this weekend?

Amen.

Sebastien Bourdais (or take your pick of the next 5 friggin' Atlantic drivers after Graham Rahal, for that matter) would toast a majority of the field in most any event in Tony George's little circus. The fact that Eddie Cheever is even in the car at all is quite symbolic of the IRL....

I disagree. I'm no fan of Tony George, but the quality of the top x drivers in the IRL is better than the top x in Champ Car.

tchanson 06-04-2006 08:05 PM

sure, he's no Danica, but who is?...

As today at the Glen proved, a steady diet of nothing but boring ovals over the years turns the brains (and reflexes) of once great drivers into oatmeal when they have to actually brake, shift... or turn right.

I'd still take Bourdais over any two IRL drivers.

Tim

W Scott Shores 06-04-2006 08:07 PM

Yes, Bourdais is excellent.

sammyg2 06-04-2006 08:07 PM

LOL I agree Richard, I'm not a big IRL fan except that today they were turning left... and right!
And it was on a real track instead of some stupid cobbled together circus freak street course so I watched. Plus they actually raced with a slight drizzle going on instead of red-flagging the race as soon as three rain drops fell (no offence to those who like wimpy nascar) I could almost pretend I was watching real sports cars with real drivers.

Danica has no room to call him an idiot though. Who took out 2 cars 2 years ago at Indy with the yellow waving?

DaveE 06-05-2006 04:58 AM

Eddie has one or two more years under his belt though.............

Righhhhhhhttttt... that's why the traitor cart guys who went to the IRL mopped the place up. Sam Hornish is good at turning left, though, I'll give him that.

kycarguy 935 06-05-2006 01:35 PM

Cheever may be an idiot but I saw him get 3rd place at Phoenix in a Formula One race. And he is very smart just not a mature racer yet....hehe.
