toyota land cruiser- good daily driver?

I'm considering buying a friends 1995 land cruiser as a new daily driver. Anyone out there have one- I've heard they're bullet proof but have never driven one, any recommendations? -it's a relatively low miles about 100k car, body is perfect, all records, all maintance done etc..

Great engine, eats brakes and tires especially for high volume traffic like Boston, otherwise pretty easy to work on parts are not cheap though, on the other hand we also own Porsches.

Agree with brakes and parts, short life and expensive. Had a 92 Land Cruiser, great vehicle, would go through anything. Gas mileage was a killer. Very safe car for wife and kids. Sits high with good visibility of road. Would I buy another one, YES!!
jsut my $.02

Thanks guys,

I've heard about brakes and I could expect the tires given the weight, luckly it has 16's so they shouldnt be too expensive, he's asking 7900.00, I'm sure I can get it for mid to low 7's -does that sound about right for the $

And I thought you were asking about real Landcruisers. FJ40's

My sister in law loves hers. She has been known to go 4 wheeling across street cement medians.

Bad gas mileage, school buses will pass you on a hill, but definetly bulletproof. You can squeeze 300k miles out of those engines.

I have a 1985 FJ60 with a 122K on it,I figure it will last me another 20 years I second the school bus passing thing, you just can't be in a hurry, but it will get you there.Peek HP is at 1800 rpm's and redline at 4000,but rarely take it over 3100 rpm

Timely thread... an hour ago a friend asked me to go on a roadtrip this weekend. Looking at an 83 bj42. Tub looks a bit rough in the pictures, but it has a good frame and recent engine & tranny. Don't come by them very often, especially within a 3 hr drive, so he'll probably snap it up.

The old FJ's are really nice, a neighbor has a fully restored one that he drives all the time!

The 95 I'm looking at has the 212hp 4.5 liter which must be better than the 4.0 but I'm not expecting to set land speed records! My commute is mostly highway, I want a 4wd that is reliable, cheap to run and safe for the wife and kids, so it looks like it may work, the main thing on this on is that it's incredible well maintained, the current owner changes the oil like every 2k miles! the engine looks like new etc... he's a car guy and it shows so I think its pretty solid...

It will not be cheap to run with $3/gallon gas! My boss had one for a couple years, I think it got close to single-digit mileage. Weighed a ton. Make that three. Nice ride, though.
