Why not Atlantic City? Does it suck?

I never hear of anyone doing AC for the weekend, what gives?

M.D. Holloway 06-06-2006 07:54 PM

AC is a pit. Not too much further up the road you can go to Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun. Much much better. Get tired of gambling or you want to spend your winnings you can hit NYC, Newport or Boston - all about an hour an a half away.

UPM part Deux? But if y'all think it sucks, then where?

UPM - Part Duex - Atlantic City - Drunker and Dirtier

I'm about an hour from AC. I go there alot , not too gamble though(I hate gambling). The place has really cleaned up from the s#*thole that it used to be. Plenty of other things to do there.
Lots of good shows at the convention center. Many major enertertainers at the casinos.
Its not as glitzy as Vegas, but its cool nonetheless.

Besides, Vegas dont have an ocean and boardwalk!:p

lendaddy 06-07-2006 04:14 AM

Thanks guys. I would be going for the gambling, so as long as muggings are rare and the place is clean I'm happy. Is it as inexpensive as Vegas(hotels and food)?

AFJuvat 06-07-2006 04:19 AM

Just a thought, but why not Florida? Coast has casino boats (4 hr cruise and it is free) plus various other attractions.

VINMAN 06-07-2006 04:19 AM

Its suprisingly safe there. Just dont wander way off the main strip. The crappy areas are pretty far away from the action. Plus there is a huge police presence.

When are you planning on going?

Just brainstorming a getaway, no set date yet. We have a lot of Casinos here in Michigan as well, not to mention Canada, but they don't treat you like Vegas does. No free drinks, no slutty waitresses in g strings:D, etc....

gaijindabe 06-07-2006 04:43 AM

Not so bad - but it aint no Vegas. A big crowd shows up from NYC by bus..

lendaddy 06-07-2006 04:44 AM

Do they comp drinks all day?

Many, many buses from the retirement villages. Worst thing is the large lack of Elvis impersonators.:D

Yes, they comp drinks

I for one will not be going to the Peoples Republic of New Jersey. I have to go to PRNY for business, no choice. Even California is better!

I say next UPM, somehwere in Orange County, maybe Dana Point. We don't need gambling. We need twisty, curvy women!

red-beard 06-07-2006 04:54 AM

I mean roads

AC ain't all that. If you live nearby, I guess it's ok. I certainly wouldn't take a flight to see it. My folks have a house on LBI, so when I'm stuck there and can't take it anymore, AC is an hour away, though you can see it from the end of LBI. I like that casinos there are about the only place in the PRNJ where you can still smoke indoors. IIRC, last time I was jonesing for coffee, the boardwalk Starbucks charged over $6 for what costs $3.65 in already expensive DC. Oh, I also saw my best ever Van Halen show at the Borgata a while ago.

Depending on what you want to do, you might want to consider renting a house in Brigantine Beach. It is a 5 minute drive to AC and once you get to one of the casinos there are shuttles that can transport you to any of the casinos. I think they are free, but I could be wrong. I am not sure if there is a taxi service that could get you back if you were too toasted to drive though. I could find out for you if you were interested. But staying in Brigantine will get you away from the casinos ect if you want some time away at a quieter beach and more family setting. 2 must haves in AC are 1. Steele's Fudge, and 2. Johnsons carmel Popcorn both are on the boardwalk. The Borgata is the newest and most vegas esque casino in the area. If you want more information on anything I would be glad to help.

Well they blew up the chicken man in Philly last night,
now they blew up his house too.
Down on the boardwalk they're gettin' ready for a fight,
gonna see what them racket boys can do.

Now there's trouble bussin' in from outta state,
and the D.A. can't get no relief.
Gonna be a rumble out on the promenade and the gamblin' commission's hangin' on by the skin of its teeth.

Well now everything dies baby that's a fact.
But maybe everything that dies someday comes back
Put your makeup on fix your hair up pretty
And meet me tonight in Atlantic City

...From the Boss, of course.
