Motorola Q Smartphone/PDA

Anyone have this thing yet? Opinions?

steve, i hate motorolla. just got rid of a razr after giving it a shot for 2-3 months... not user friendly at all. it's almost like a mac vs. pc thing. after living w/ several nokias, it felt like everything required 2 or 3 more steps w/ motorolla. looks hot but a b1tch to use.

VaSteve 06-08-2006 09:25 AM

Yeah I remember the one you got rid of ;)
What I have heard (from many people) is that Razr is a POS. The Q rusn on the same software that the Treo 700's use. But, it has the cool thumbwheel like the blackberry so I don't have to use a stylus or touch the screen with my fingerss.

I have this LG phone now that every other function the main buttons swap sides of the screen! what a pita!

VaSteve, what are you, clairvoyant? I was wondering about the Q as well. It's on sale for $199 with Verizon (2 yr contract). That's hecka cheap for a PDA/phone, unless it sucks.

I played with both and bought a Treo 700P. Palm based, very few virus attacks, I love the touch screen, but you don't need to use it. The Treo has a larger screen with almost twice the pixel count. Larger than the Q but much longer battery life.

I looked at the cnet review. It might actually suck.

The Q is actually a Smartphone, not a Pocket PC. And on a couple of forums it has been getting great reviews. If it were not a Verizon exclusive for the next 6 months we would give it a try. We need / require GSM phones.

One poster over on SmarthPhoneThoughts.Com (I think it was there) says it is the best Moto phone ever. That said, I haven't had good luck with Moto so that could be a proverbial "left handed compliment." In any case, if you want a full mobile messaging solution, the Q is worth a long look.

I bought the Q for my boss from my sales guy at Verizon and got quite a good deal on the phone better than the above prices. So far so good. The first batch of phones that went out have had bad batteries in our area but other than that, he thoroughly enjoys the phone and my brief experience with it was that it was quite nice.

The Treo 700 is a good one. You can get it from Sprint too ;)

Better watch the quality with Treo. We evaluated the 700w and thought it was pretty good. However we have several clients that got it and have had to return it for a new unit many times.

I returned the Q I bought. It worked well for pushing my email and taking calls. Little else. I didn't spend hours reveiwing it, just relied on Verizon's 2 weeks to try it guarantee. It's an OK phone, a lousy PDA. In fact, it doesn't even have a search capability and you can't load Word or Excel mobile. You can't really enter anything IIRC like new appointments, etc. The battery life was terrible since they compromized on the battery to make the phone smaller. The voice recognition over Bluetoooth was terrible, it would try and figure out what I said based on the internal phonics of the phone, not my diction. I don't really have an accent, but it couldn't even understand "yes". Ug. Oh well.

Returned it for the Treo 650. I like Palm since I have used it before.

Goodbye Moto.

Halm 06-19-2006 05:47 AM

If you get a 650, I predict that POS will not stand for Palm Operating System. :D
