Amplifier question: Sony XPlode not working
I have a Sony XPlode 5 Channel amp powering my speakers. On the way home the other night, it cut out completely. Pulled the seat to get access. I have 12V power going to the amp and 12V power from the remote turn-out when the key is turned. Ground is still connected.
When I turn the key on, the lights flash then cut off. I'm thinking I must have a short in the system but not sure. I disconnected one lead of every speaker just in case I had a short at one of the speakers but not impact. Thoughts? I don't have the owners manual. Michael

double check your ground, i would unbolt it where it goes to the chassis/clean up the metal and reattatch.
i assume you checked voltage with a multi-meter? if so the the 12v reading could be coming from the caps in the amp, check the fuse by the battery for continuity, sometimes the larger glass fuses will visually appear good but the soldered caps have corroded (that is the most common thing i see at our shop). unhook the battery wire from the amp and check it again to be sure. i've seen alot of x-plode amps just die......kinda funny with the name and all, when the sony amps die they almost always blow the fuse on the amp. i'm leaning towards no 12v+ from the battery.....

I check continuity of the fuse near the battery and the fuse in the Amp. Both show continuity (I got a read on the ohm meter). I check power from the lead coming from the battery to the bolt where the ground is connected, it showed 12V. I checked power from the remote turn-on to ground and it was zero, turned the key, then showed 12V.
The weird thing is that the three lights on the amp light up when I turn the key, then go away. Not sure what this means. I would think that if I have a short, then one would stay lit meaning that it has a problem.
