Anyone Cathc the Caveman Program and the Human Hobbit Story on the Discovery Channel?
 

After the Mavs beat the Heat, I checked out the Discovery Channel - great show on Cavemen and possibly a new humanid species found - 14,000 yrs old, full adult was 3ft tall and an advanced tool maker. Pretty cool stuff.

Yeah, I saw it for the second time I think. I'm always a sucker for those kinds of documentaries. I always wonder what it would be like to go back in time and see those old hominid types & how they actually lived. I don't think they hooped & hollered around like they portray them on these programs. The one a few evenings ago on the Discovery channel about the opening of a new egyptian tomb was also cool.

Was that the one hosted by baldwin? I saw his dumb ass and flipped the channel... I had "dog bites man" Tivo'd anyway.

Ya, he actually was a bit more melodramtic than he had to be but it provided a great snapshot of thr ages of man and offered up a few explntions that I had heard. I didn't know Habilis (3+ft) was that small or Giganitic Pithicus (sp) was so big (10ft!). Not a big streach from Cromagnum (sp) to modern man IMHO.

Marv - I bet they did hoop and holler it up. Think of monkeys and so forth then consider people in general especially women! The forest would be a pretty noisy place - no wonder the headed for the Savana. The males were trying to escape the constant gabbering from the women.

I saw most of it and had seen an article about the same thing in National Geographic. The thing that got me the most in the whole thing was when the one detractor(sp) of the theory that they were a different species said something to the effect, "it's impossible (his word exactly) for her to have made those tools...." That's one of the most assinine things I've ever heard a scientist say for several reasons. If all scientists were like that guy we'd still be bleeding people and riding horses. It seems especially whacky considering everything that we "know" about early man is really what we think, surmise, and guestimate. Since it's all from fossil records, we can't be 100% certain of anything that's currently written or thought about back then.

But, besides that one guy being a very well educated numb nut, it was a cool show.

In case there are any believers in this group. They have been suggesting for a while that Giganto Pithecus Blacki is what people are seeing and calling Big Foot. Is it possible?
I missed this show I hope it's on again soon.

They never drew the comparison and they only made a brief mention of the giant. The animated depiction of it was the weakest part. It almost looked like a claymation not comp-generated imagry.
