Capital One Blank Check ????
Ok, I've decided to buy my third 911. Was looking for something somewhat local and I live in Eastern Washington. I've been communicating with a fellow Pelicanite who has an 88 Carrera for sale in Kirkland. I have a Capital One blank check to purchase. Link to 911:
1988 Carrera Coupe Anyhow I sent him an email wanting to coordinate a PPI and sent him a link to the Capital One "Blank Check" website explaining the process . His immediate was: Nate, You sound like a scammer. Paul No other response. Any ideas??? Last edited by phoneguy; 06-14-2006 at 05:12 PM.. |

Pretty silly. Did you explain that this is the method of payment? Maybe you were unclear?
I'd give him your phone # and have him call you - if he calls, great, if not, great. Nice car tho, however ad reads like it written by Starbucks. rjp

Seller may be some old fart that hides his money under the mattress and doesn't believe in banks.. Explain yourself and if he's still paranoid, continue the search.

I have done business with Capitol one but am not familiar with there "blank check" program. As has been said maybe he's not comfortable with exchanging money electronically (if that is what you are proposing) so if you want the car really bad perhaps you could talk to him about a more conventional way to pay him.
I'm no 911 expert but does that carpet look normal to you guys?

I'd still pursue the car. I'd ask him if there's anything that you could do to put his mind at ease.

The last time I bought a Porsche, I offered to bring the seller to my bank to get him a cashier's check in front of him. He said if I can do that, I can just bring him cash. So that's what I did. I laid out 50's and 100's in front of him.
Why not ask the seller how he would like to get paid? |

My guess is that Paul doesn't have the cash and Capital One is actually going to be financing part of this deal. But I could be wrong.

If it IS in fact the capital one financing gig, it's easy as can be. I did this for part of my purchase. Basically, you get pre-qualified with Capital. they send you a check. You write it to WHOEVER you want, private or dealer. Send them back the documents they request, including being notarized, and you are in business.
I'd call him back and talk to him rather than just sending him the link. Good luck! -Chris

I've used Capitol one for buying and I've accepted a check through them when I sold my car. Both times it's the "blank check" thing. It's as solid as it gets. When buying, I'm careful to explain the process to the seller. I would contact the seller and explain the process. You can't blame a guy for being skeptical because there are a LOT of scams out there. However, it's a shame to walk from a buyer who uses Capitol 1 because it's as good as cash to me.
