Want to author an Educational CD....suggestions?

I've been toying around with an idea for an educational "program" that I'd like to author and sell.

At this point I believe CD will be the most appropriate platform/format to build and distribute on.

My question relates to what software to use if I want to build a menu driven type of tutorial. I may also want Icons at different points to skip to other sections of the "program". So it won't be unlike a web interface. I may also want to introduce some type of animation. Perhaps video clips and/or simple computer generated stuff.

It'll be important that I'm as close to 100% compatible for at least the PC audience....Apple compatible would be great as well.

Lastly, I'm thinking of including software (Free or Shareware) on the CD to complete the package.

Any suggestions?

Do it in Flash. By the time you are done, it will work with everything. Flash 9 for Linux is on its way...

+1 for FLASH.

I would seriously consider using the web instead.

Thanks for the advice...that make +3 on the Flash as a friend here suggested the same. I was also told that a product called Captivate would make building easier.

The jury is still out on using the Web as a deilvery vehicle...or perhaps as an adjuct.

do it as web content, just don't plan on hosting it somewhere. As long as your links, etc. are all relative, it will work whether it is on a server, burned to CD, etc.

RickM - I'm doing one now. I have just signed a contract with Industrial Press (the guys that publish the Machinists Handbook et al) to do one. PM me and I will give the details.
