As Jack Welch allegedly once said "to be a good CEO, you have to be able to drown puppies every day."

Hrm, ever think to ask if they are willing to stay at what they are actualy worth - so that they actualy make you a profit? We recently told one by buy here at work who there didn't seem to be any hope for improvement after continualy making VERY costly mistakes.
You cannot beleive how frustrating it is stainyg up to 4AM Saturday morning because he made ALL the parts wrong that should ofbeen done two weeks before, and having to do everything last minute from scratch to get the parts out. After several things like it - that was it. The boss and I where the only two that would stay up that late to get it done, and he wasn't super happy about it happening again... Although it mostly was 12AM when he quite from the previous mistakes to get things done. |
lendaddy,
I'm sure it was necessary and wasn't easy for you , you don't see to be the kind of person who would fire someone unless it was absolutely necessary. Good luck with your business, I hope things work out well for you! |
Its a hard job but somebody has to do it...lol.
I have had my share of people to dismiss and its no fun, but needed for the company. Goodluck. |
This is so true..

A sample of what happens when you give a personal loan to a commission only salesperson - mind you, she's got almost $1K out on me right now, and we HAVE NO DRAW POLICY. If her first deal funds with me, I might recoup my personal loan. She's worked with my company for about 3 weeks. She is a referral from another friend in the business, I guess I was the chosen one. Am I crazy? Probably so... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: "Randy P To: "'A B'" > Subject: RE: Hey Date: Tue, 13 Jun 2006 19:12:22 -0700 I said earlier last week that I would lend out IF we had this thing signed, . You are putting me in a difficult spot by dropping this on me at last minute. Name an “employer” that puts out draws like this? It’s not like I haven’t already extended myself – where else would this happen? I have broken the 1st rule of employer / employee relationships with this, and so far it seems to be biting me in the ass. Lets understand our relationship, this is a business that I have to watch for, not a service for personal relationships. Please understand that I’m not trying to be insensitive but then again, my obligation is first and foremost to the business – how can I just keep extending with no security? I am not trying to develop a trend here, nor am I trying to save the world. I’m not trying to be a “smartass”, but that was a serious thought. We don’t need to be personal about it, please don’t put me in this position. I like working with you and I want you here, you must understand. Once we have it signed (not even funded), I’ll go ahead and put it out. By my count, we should have it signed by Friday. I keep my word, so once again, the moment it’s signed in escrow. Normally, no one is supposed to get draws. rjp -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: A B Sent: Tuesday, June 13, 2006 6:43 PM To: randyp@se Subject: Hey Sorry I left so fast, I was trying to see if anyone wanted to go home from the Ram so I could work, but I had no luck so I am at home. I have to work lunch tomorrow so I won't be in the office. If you absolutely need to get a hold of me there the number is XXXXXXXX I just need the loan to close so I can get my **** taken care of. You joke about the payday loans and not to pay them because I'm doing a BK...well I can't file until I pay the attorney $300, so when this thing hopefully goes next week I can take care of that...In the meantime I still need to pay my power bill and car payment. You said you've been in my shoes before, so I probably don't need to say more. It would be cool if you weren't such a smartass about what bills you think I should pay and not pay. I'm at that stress point where I was almost in tears in your office with your comments. You threw your hands up when you asked me when I needed the money but yet you've pushed me off for a week and a half about it. I'm one of those people that would rather hear the truth. If you can't or don't want to help then just tell me don't lead me on, cuz you're making my situation worse. I'm a very straight forward person. |
Joel, it never is easy. I only had to do it once. Ever since then I have stayed out of management, because nothing really compensates for the turmoil one goes through to fire people. good luck.

Anyway, as an additional twist, I hear through the grapevine that the "she" I got rid of thinks it was sexual discrimination. Good luck with that. |

Maybe if you hadn't given away so many stainless steel samples to fellow Pelicans, your profits would be a little better:D . Not knowing the type of people involved, I would watch my back for a couple of weeks in case one of them goes postal. |
