Nuclear Plant Evaluations
or call it second guessing, or reviews...
sep. thread so as to avoid clutter & partition topics The partial meltdowns at the 3 or 4 nuclear reactors in Japan may call into question maintenance, design and other issues at both those plants and others. It appears that there were long standing criticisms of the containment vessel design in these plants. http://www.nytimes.com/2011/03/16/world/asia/16contain.html?_r=1&hp IIRC, they date from about 1971 or so, meaning they were designed in the 1960s. I wonder how many other such plants there are... and how many are on fault zones... I know the Germans extended the lifetime of some of their plants recently -- amid controversy. And have now decided to go back and review or inspect many of their nukes. |

the only country currently with all the same design is FRANCE. cheaper to build/cheaper to install/overall costs less.
in the u.s. its all over the map as far as who built what. each plant different. PVNGS (palo verde nuklar gen station) 55 miles west of phx. was the last built in the u.s. as far as i know. dept of energy controls all of them. running them to guarding them. anything nuklar and the dept of energy is there.
