Huge "La Curacao" warehouse store chain in LA...Spanish speaking only!
Off the Loma Linda exit in the San Bernardino area, they just built a huge new Sam's Club to replace a slightly smaller Sam's virtually next door. That Sam's was only seven years old when it was abandoned, by the way.
In the old building, a new store called "La Curacao" opened, so my girlfriend and I decided to check it out. It's a lot like a huge department store...clothes, electronics, banks, just about anything you could want. It's massive like a Sam's Club. The two greeters at the door greeted us in Spanish. I tried to ask both of them a question and they just smiled at me (no Englais). The ENTIRE staff didn't speak English! I asked four employees there a question in English and nobody could answer me. All the other employees were talking in Spanish to the customers. It felt so crazy to be in such a big modern store in America and not be able to speak my native tongue. I looked up La Curacao, and it's a chain in California (soon to expand to Phoenix and Tucson). Their marketing strategy: "La Curacao approves 75 percent of credit card applications regardless of immigration status." And charges 23.99% (!) interest for the privilege. Read more about their business here: http://www.marketingymedios.com/marketingymedios/search/article_display.jsp?schema=&vnu_content_id=1002425665&WebLogicSession=RFPmquk2la4iD72zc3ZtPS9OPm1N1qfv3i Mv19fsPdxoEtOefZ0E%7C88570978976189719/168887094/6/7005/7005/7002/7002/7005/-1 By accomodating and "enfranchising" immigrants in their foriegn language, they will remain mired in poverty and pay 24% interest forever! How can they become doctors, pilots, lawyers, etc. without speaking English? I never realized how serious this problem has gotten until venturing into La Curacao. Anybody else been inside one of these? |

Well, that is one place that I'll never step foot in, but I would be willing to file complaints on discrimination and have the border patrol check out to make sure every one is legal.

One more place profiteering on the illegal immigrant situation. I concur, with the above about dropping a dime to INS

Welcome to Miami... well Miami of the West. The only difference in Miami is that most people are legal because of some stupid policy granting ANY Cuban automatic citizenship because they come from a communist country. Actually, only 1/2 of Spanish speaker in Miami are probably legal.
