business trip, east Hartford Conn.
Looks like I'm going to be travelling to East Hartford conn. in a couple of weeks to oversee the final assembly of a pratt and Whitney gas fired turbine (jet engine).
Any info on that city? Host spots, places to avoid, must sees, etc. Closest I've been to there is Philly so I have no clue. Tanks. |

Sammy, I'm pretty sure a buddy of mine works at PW as a SAP manager/consultant. He commutes up there, stays the week and comes back on Friday. From what he tells me there's lots of college bars. I'll give him a call and ask for specifics.
Anything in particular you'dlike to do or see?

I'll prolly be there for 3 or 4 days, might get out once or twice to observe the night life but it will be look not touch, I'm an old married guy.
I usually try to plan these business trips so that I get one day to sight see if there is anything to check out. For instance when I traveled to west chester Pa. I made a point to see gettysburgh. When I went to Jeannette Pa. I spent a day on the waterfront in Pittsburgh. All I could think of when driving those windy small roads through the woods in Penn. was that I wished the POS rental car was a 911 ![]() |

limerock race park is a little over an hour and a half away. June 30 and July 1. Big PCA tie in also, rs spyders, what more could you ask for. Our roads are great fun, plenty of hills and valley/river runs.

I live in West Hartford, currently, and can't think of too much in the way of serious must-sees. Six Flags is cool, Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods are lots of fun (Indian casinos), you could always take in a Red Sox or Yankees game... but I think your best bet might be Lime Rock

Lime Rock is the prettiest racetrack I've ever been to. If there's an event going on, it's worth checking out. Can't be more than an hour and a half or so there. The drive is beautiful, too.
There are also cruise nights all over the place. Almost exclusively of the American iron/muscle car type. I spent a couple summers in Springfield, MA (north of Hartford). Bored out of my skull, but I think I found a different cruise night for 4 out of 5 weekday evenings. I can't recall which spot was for which night. But there were events in Easthampton, Ludlow (Elks Club? Wednesday night spaghetti and cruise night?), some town along the Connecticut River a town or two north of Springfield, on the way to Northampton, and the mother of all cruise nights in West Enfield (?), CT. If you can catch that one, definitely check it out. About a football field or two in size, with easily a couple hundred cars there. Very impressive get together. Free. Call around the hot rod shops when you get to Hartford, and see if it's still running. They've got to know about it.

Oh, and if you can find it, try a bottle of Berkshire Brewing Company's River Ale. I can only find it in (duh) the Berkshires. It's gotta be one of my favorite brews of all time.
