I carry a dbA meter in my P-cars....had the chance to whip it out twice....never had them take me on....my Speedster is at 88 and the 911 and the 356, 76dbA.

Well the EVO did come from Texas...my friend received the TX Title when he bought the car and the car does not even have the pre-drilled spots on the bumper for the plate.

mikez - that is a good idea! I bought a db meter from Radio Shack to fight one case, got me results and then returned it, its amazing that it has to come to that....oh well!

nostatic - I'll tell you the story over a beer one day..its a pretty funny one.

Angela - thanks for your reply.

I'm passing the info along.

I had no idea Radio Shack was now "loaning" electronics!

If you are talking about the front plate, which I assume you are, there are no holes drilled, however, there are spots for fixation that are discrete, to the right side of the bumper cover.

THat's a crap excuse because Texas requires a front plate.

Besides, hey, he didn't have a front plate so he should have gotten a ticket. The front plate thing may be a pain in the butt, but it's still the rules. If you don't want a ticket for not having a front plate then I suggest you run one. If you don't run one then I don't wanna hear b!tching if you get a ticket.

Sounds like your buddy was being profiled. It happens.

A police officer does not need a moving violation to pull you over and cite you for an "equipment violation." For example, you can get pulled over for burnt out tail lights, headlights, etc. without ever having violated a moving violation.

In the first listed case, it seems the cops are being petty. Sometimes external forces such as MADD, numerous recent accidents in an area, street racing or something else may motivate the traffic cops to step up enforcement.

Sometimes it seems that the cops should move on to more pressing crimes like violent ones, David

I find it funny that I have yet to get stopped in the Porsche but all the times I have been stoped I have been in my BMW.
Street racing is a problem in my area and I don't think a P-car is used by many kids. BMW's however are used by the more afuliant punks. non scientific proof of profiling.
I am aware that I can be pulled over leagaly for not running a front tag Just that it isn't worth the cops time to write me a ticket.

(grabbing car thieves on interstate is always BIG STAR on cops what i did today list). if i make it thru this entire 2500 mile trip w/out getting pulled over for some reason, i will be amazed! i havent gotten a ticket here in ariz in almost 25 yrs now! so its not like i haul a$$ everywhere.! no decibel meter.............means he cant record anything!
beleive me - its a star day for the real owner when their car is found intact!

Your thoughts?

I bet those cops are REALLY busy pulling over EVERY Harley on the road since it seems their priority is noise abatement.

Your friend was profiled. I get followed all the time by cops when I drive my RX-7. The best is at night, they will tailgate me to try to make me do something stupid. I just keep slowing down then finally pull over to the side and let them pass. I learned a long time ago to keep it on the track I drive on the street like an old lady in that car.

Its funny, I could drive my MINI in anger on the street and it was almost as if people would point and go "Lokk at the cute little car going fast awwwwww". If I tried that in my P-car or my RX-7 they would have been calling the police.

gaijindabe 06-21-2006 07:08 AM

That is Colorado for you.

A co-worker had a black son. Every day the kid wore camo jeans he would be brought home in a cop car. Picked up repeatedly just walking down the sidewalk...

All the fearful people from the Mid-West afraid their new found nirvana might turn into the Ohio and Michigan they fled from put up with this crap.

K9Torro 06-21-2006 11:02 AM

Dude if your car is fast enough just run from them ...

Hell even if it is not fast enough, run from them anyway, remember you can always make them look stupid and pay the 10 - 15 bucks in court when the judge sees that they don't have a leg to stand on,,,

T
