Anyone else watch the carnage at the Open??
Wow...that last 30 minutes of the US Open was just amazing.
I know the course is supposed to be tough, but two of the leaders make double bogey on the 72nd hole to lose the Open?? Just amazing. I still cannot believe that Mickelson pulled his driver out of the bag on the last hole. I mean the guy couldn't hit the broad side of a barn all day long and all he needs is par to win and bogey to tie. Hello? Pull the friggin 3 wood and put the ball in the fairway!! I did think his reaction to that tee shot was classic, the "Oh *****" look on the face followed closely by him saying "Oh no...." Heh, been there, done that. Made old Phil look almost human... |
Missed it. I had some paint drying, couldn't pull myself away.

Me? I can watch the US open or World Cup soccer with fascination. Baseball and football are addictions. It's about competition. Hell, I get a kick out of watching two dogs fight over a bone. |
I know a lot of people can't stand watching golf on TV. I happen to love watching golf on Tv. Maybe it's because I am already a golf nut, who knows.
Once you have experience playing the game and know how difficult it is, you really begin to appreciate the shots these guys can pull off. I can't stand watching tennis or auto racing though...yeesh...bunch of left turns. Puts me to sleep every time. |
With the solitary exception of women's beach volleyball, I can't stand to watch sports on TV.
This (not that there's anything wrong with that...) http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1150735566.jpg Or this? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1150735586.jpg |
Golf is not a sport. It is an excuse to stand out in the sun and get drunk with a bunch of friends.
|
Well, they do sell golf equipment at Sports Authority.....:)
|
Of course golf is a sport. It may not be an athletic event, but it is a sport just like bowling, darts, curling, etc.
Golf is a sport that is 90% played between the ears. People who say golf is an excuse to get drunk just suck at golf. :p |
I only watch the majors and a few other tournaments. The US Open being my favorite and after watching coverage of all four rounds, I really wish Johnny Miller would start playing again.
He knows it all, best player ever, in his eyes. As for Phil choking, the way I look at it is that he hit 2/14 fwys on Sunday, was lucky to hit 11 greens, and fired 74. Pretty good, but not good enough. It was nice to see Duvy card a tournament tying low round 68 on Friday.:) |
Yeah, that was a total 'Tin Cup' moment for old Phil...thought he had his demons cast out.

There was a whole lotta chokin' goin' on at Winged Foot. Padraig Harrington bogeyed the last three holes or he would have won.
I was actually pulling for Monty! He was standing in the middle of the fairway with the lead. He stood there for about five minutes while Jim Furyk was hitting out of the sand and then missing that four footer. Just before Monty pulled the trigger he switched clubs!! WFT?!? He then left it short and right and in the nasty rough. Ended up with a double. No way Lefty should hit driver on that hole. Then he follows up that bad decision by trying an impossible slice around the trees. Four different guys could have won that tournament. Ogilvy is the luckiest SOB playing (although he did hang in there). But that was a flat out choke job by Monty, Lefty, Furyk and Padraig. |
Auto racing, bull fighting, and mountain climbing are the only real sports ... all others are games.
-Hemingway Thom, was it Navajo White? I had some Swiss Mocha that I just couldn't take my eyes off of...the solvent evaporation was just riveting. I'll gladly *play* almost any sport...and at one point shot high 70's (in grad school when I had free afternoons). But I don't watch sports so much any more. Just a few things here and there. |
3 wood? Why even chance that. He could have played the hole with a 7 iron and a putter and made par!!
