certified used cars

I've been looking at used beemers at my local beemer store. What do you all think is a PPI required when buying a certified used car?

Personally, with all the possible things that can go wrong, and with the cost of repairs, added to the fact that it has been (for me) a royal PITA to get a dealer to do warranty work sometimes. I would consider it cheap piece of mind in the long run.

OK I'll be the only one brave enough to say if me I wouldn't bother! I've experienced a certified BMW which had a warranty up to 100,000 miles. I bought the car around wholesale, not from a BMW dealer with 40,000 miles, drove to 98,000 and then sold it. In that time I had afew items fixed under warranty and not once did I have a problem getting the car fixed under warranty. Now my engine or transmission didn't self distruct, so maybe a major claim like that might be harder to process. I did though have maybe $2000 -$2500 worth of warranty work performed, from cracked seat trim to a water pump over the 3 years I had the car.

Believe me you are buying that extra warranty period with a certified car, you will notice not all the cars on the lot will be certified. I rememeber the time I bought mine the dealer cars were about $3000 more if they were certified.

I you want to save a little I would concider a non certified car, then have a PPI. Of course there are no guarantees had after a PPI something won't appear 6 months down the road.

BMW is very strict about their Certified cars. Cars that have sustained damage or previous paintwork are not allowed. If a rock broke the windshield and it was replaced with non-BMW glass, BMW won't certify it. The certifications and related warranties are real, but you pay for it.

If you are willing to pay the ~$2000 premium for a certified BMW, I would think there is no need for a PPI.
