Lubemaster...another oil ?

Mike,

Since you are the unparalleled expert on all things lube(that just doesn't sound right ). I have another question for you regarding hydraulic fluid. My Morini calls for HLP 80 front fork oil--specifically BP brand, but I don't think that matters. I was just wondering if you happen to know what superceded this or is a comporable oil?

BTW--thanks again for the starter oil

Eric - You have me scratching my head on that one. I will do some research and look into it. I do not think it is anything exotic. It may just be a viscosity thing - give me a few days.

Mike,

Thanks. I am planning on swapping the fork oil sometime this summer and am flat-out stumped here.

Chances will be good that this will be a very light hydraulic oil in the ISO 10 area - years ago many of the designs of the time were calling for fairly low weight oils. I can not believe that there has been a major change. Most of the time installing an oil as high as ISO 22 to stiffen the suspension a bit and leave it less vulnerable yaw while cornering. You sacrificed ride for stability.

Good news is I have either oil - so the question is, do you want comfort or stability?

Hmmm...well right now the forks feel too soft and spongy for my taste...so I am really looking to improve stability...is there something between an ISO 10 and ISO 22 something more towards the stiffer side, that won't be so stiff as to be uncomfortable? The forks take 400 cc total.

Thanks Mike

You could try a blend - 1:1 of the ISO 10 and ISO 22 - that might shoot you in the middle provided that the ISO 22 was too stiff. It may not be.

I can't remember off hand what I sent you. What was it?

Is ISO 22 readily available at an auto/bike parts store? I may try it first since my current issue is too soft forks.

Previously you sent me oil for the starter of the Morini--it called for some oddball oil --HLP something or other that I couldn't find anywhere, I had posted a general question here in Pelican OT regarding a compatible oil, and you hooked me up with the right oil. I drained the old and refilled and haven't had a starter problem since.

Thanks for the info Mike.

I'm pretty cool...problem is I can't remember what the heck I sent ya!

As for availablility on the ISO 22...you might be hard pressed to find that oil in any store or for that matter at any oil distributor for only a 400cc. Tell ya what, let me try to get you some. PM me your mailing address and I will try to get a lil sump'n out to ya.
