What The HE!! is a HTTP+Proxy and Why Do I Keep Getting This Message?
I ran my spyware and even booted up in safe mode but I still get this message. My IT people are of no help and frankly I think I have been infected with the computo version of the freak'n bird flu!
So, you bunch IT slackdaddies and keybored scallywags have any idea what the heck this is and what I should do about it? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1150837247.jpg |
Are you supposed to be using a proxy server from work?
|
a proxy server is a gateway , usually used in work places , so instead of users roaming the internet directly , it goes through hte proxy
it caches content but also allows for filtering, and monitoring... |
check IE options
connections LAN settings uncheck proxy if enabled ( at least if you know you ain't need one) |
I use the Proxy Server when at work and disable when wireless at home. It has been enabld and working fine here.
|
so , how do you get online if you get that error? other computer??
|
Are you trying to access the internet from home or at the office?
|
I'm at work. In the Internet Properties, I have checked off the selct proxy server. I know that in the past wneh I disable it I am unable to get on-line. I am proxy enabled.
|
but when do you see the error?? at work or at home?
the point is , if you see that error , does it affect your surfing or not?? what does it affect, and when does it do so?? |
Do you have a user account/password for your work log in? If so, if you enter this , does it let you access the internet. Maybe someone changed the proxy settings recently to require authentication.
|
If usirvisa01.nch.com:80 is the correct server, then it could just be either that a saved password is no longer saved and needs to be retyped or as 84p suggests maybe it didn't require auth before and now it does. I've worked places where it didn't require a password and other places where it did. The other idea that pops into my head is that often the proxy password is passed from the OS because it's the same as the domain login. Are you properly logging into the domain?
|
I think maraum is right.
Your proxy server requires you autheticate before you are allowed to surf. What is strange is that if you have already logged in, you should not have to reenter your credentials. |
The message only pops up when I am at work - I have no problems on-line or anything else. This message just pops up every so often. I click cancle and it goes away for awhile.
|
I think your IT folks are full of baloney. I think they were allowing anonymous internet usage, and now they want to lock things down, or do auditing so they can see who is surfing what, so they changed the proxy to require authetication.
Either way though, if you are successfully logging into the network, it should not be prompting you for credentials. Sorry were are all being so vague, but we need all sorts of details if you want a real answer. What operating system are you running and what service packs are installed? What is the proxy product? Do you run any third party firewall software? |
