Traffic can be a bear - but the hotels near JFK airport are central to your travels. I cant remember the names, but some of the big hotel chains have properties nearby. Jones Beach is 45 minutes, Coney Island 25 minutes, lots of good Indian food in Ozone Park around the corner.. Enjoy.

As you head out to Jones Beach (it is only a barrier island) the last exit on the Meadowbrook parkway is Freeport/Merrick. Yes, in Nassau county. There are a few hotels out there, none of them really nice.
Brooklyn does have a few hotels, most of them in downtown Brooklyn. Queens, Brooklyn and eastern Nassau County are all close. You can stay just about anywhere... |

Jones Beach is packed in on weekends. Probably the easiest is to head to Long Beach's West End which is where the streets are named after the states. Stop to get and pay for the beach pass at Magnolia Ave down by the bay which is north of the main drag. When down west it's a short walk to all the bars. I'd suggest park around Indiana Ave and eat and drink at the bar at the corner of Indiana and Beech St. If you're into sports bars hit the one on Tennessee & Beech St. There will be about 10 bars within a 1/4 mi and about 100 girls looking to find a place to stay on weekends.
the beach entrance will look like this ![]()

Jones Beach is in Wantagh.
If you want to stay on the Island rather than in Bkln,Queens, or the city. Try The Garden City Hotel...nice place edit: and agree with what Ron says. I have a freebie beach pass from my friend on Georgia St

Listen to Ron.
Long beach is the same side of the Island as Jones beach so it enjoys the same waters and sand with the addition of the city of Long Beach and all of it's amenities. While Jones Beach is outstanding you are limited to the concessions/vendors in the area. Scott

Brooklyn to Long Beach, take Rockaway Blvd right past JFK to Long Beach. Pretty much a straight shot.
Garden City is closer to Long Beach than the center of Brooklyn is but it's a royal PIA to get to LB from GC. Brooklyn is also closer, more convenient to NYC. Better central location IMHO.

Graden City Hotel is real nice but could take you 1-2hr to get to the city.
From Kennedy head for the Atlantic Beach Bridge. Atlantic Beach is on same sandbar as long Beach. If you're doing LB on the weekend have your car parked by 8-9am. During the week no problem parking. You may be able to rent bikes for the boardwalk at Wisconson & Beech St's bike store if you're lucky? There are surf shops around that'll rent belly boards etc. what else? ![]()

Commack Motor Inn has jacuzzis in the room, hourly rates and a White Castle next door.
Not convenient to LB though.

There's a swingers club off LIE in Plainview. Wine bottles are stashed in the car for the motel room party at the LIE exit.
It's a Sat night thing. ![]()
