Help refinishing a table (AGAIN)

So my wife somehow "forgot" that what damaged our dining table previously was ironing on it....She did it again. "Sorry I forgot" she says....AARGH!

About three years ago the same thing happened and I spent a day sanding it down with multiple grades of paper and just oiling the top with orange smelling table wax.

It has held up fine with only mild swirls as a result of the sanding.

She says she will do it herself if I just tell her how (guess who will end up doing the work though)

I will at least borrow a hand sander to make the process easier.

The ironing leaves a whitish streaking that seems to penetrate into the table.

Any other solutions besides what I outlined?

Thanks

Buy her an ironing board!

Yeah, too late for that though.

Anybody have any experience with these products ? :

I have used Formbys on old furniture and have been quite pleased with the results. Use rubber gloves and have plenty of lint free rags handy.

always go with the grain when sanding.

use one of these if you don't want swirls.

use them when refinishing my wooden boats and they get a nice mirror finish. but it will take multiple grades of paper to get there. and some time to do it right.

and use a coaster for your beer while you are taking a break;)

Using a "hum" sander like the Makita shown above, 0000 steel wool and wipe down with laquer thinner. Then apply "Briwax" which is a beeswax based finish. If she does it again, lightly sand the spot and apply more Briwax.
